
At the meeting, the Prime Minister respectfully conveyed the invitation from General Secretary To Lam and other high-ranking Vietnamese leaders to US President Donald Trump to visit Vietnam.
President Donald Trump happily accepted the invitation, adding that he very much wanted to visit Vietnam and would make time to do so.
Based on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace , Cooperation, and Sustainable Development between Vietnam and the United States, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested that the US side arrange a visit for General Secretary To Lam to the United States. President Donald Trump requested that Vietnam inform the US side as soon as possible and expressed his wish for the Vietnamese Prime Minister to also visit the United States at a time convenient for both sides.
During the meeting, the two leaders agreed to focus on promoting the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation, and sustainable development between Vietnam and the United States, making it deeper, more substantive, and more effective. This includes the early signing of a reciprocal trade agreement between Vietnam and the United States based on fairness and equality, and promoting US investment in Vietnam.
Following a proposal by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, President Donald Trump responded positively and acknowledged the request to recognize Vietnam as a market economy, remove Vietnam from the D1 and D3 strategic export lists, and instructed senior US officials such as the Treasury Secretary and the Trade Representative present at the conference to respond to these issues for Vietnam as soon as possible.
The Prime Minister stated that Vietnam highly appreciates the role of US President Donald Trump in promoting the peaceful resolution of recent conflict hotspots around the world.
The brief but meaningful meeting between the two leaders on the sidelines of the ASEAN-US Summit demonstrated mutual understanding, respect, and a shared commitment to further strengthen, substantively, and effectively promote the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
Also on the same day, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien held a bilateral meeting with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to discuss the implementation of the Vietnam-US Joint Statement on the framework for a fair and balanced reciprocal trade agreement; and met with US Deputy Secretary of State Jacob Helberg to discuss trade relations between the two countries and potential cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital technology, and supply chain partnerships, as well as the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation between the two sides in this field.
