Workshop on integrating mental health screening into HIV/AIDS prevention and control activities

On August 7, in Khanh Hoa province, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Vietnam (USCDC), the Institute of Preventive Medicine and Public Health of Hanoi Medical University in collaboration with the Khanh Hoa Provincial Center for Disease Control organized a workshop on “Self-care and integration of mental health screening into HIV/AIDS prevention and control activities for high-risk communities”. The workshop was attended by 30 health workers in charge of HIV prevention and control activities in Gia Lai, Da Nang and Khanh Hoa provinces.

At the workshop, delegates shared and learned about mental health; the burden of mental health; risk factors in the work environment; updates on how clients' mental health affects their health and the quality of their HIV care and treatment; related risks; the current status of mental health care in Vietnam; some common mental health problems; the impact of stress on the body; signs and symptoms of depression. The workshop aims to help improve the capacity of health workers, especially their ability to access and comply with HIV prevention and control services in the community, thereby improving the quality of life for people at high risk of HIV infection.

The above activity is part of the IMPACT Vietnam project funded by USCDC Vietnam. The IMPACT project will be implemented from 2023-2028, implementing innovative initiatives, creating evidence-based models for national HIV and Public Health programs and strengthening best practices for disease control in Vietnam.
