Workshop on integrating mental health screening into HIV/AIDS prevention and control activities.

On August 7-8, in Khanh Hoa province, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Vietnam (USCDC), the Institute of Preventive Medicine and Public Health Training under Hanoi Medical University, in collaboration with the Khanh Hoa Provincial Center for Disease Control, organized a workshop entitled “Self-Care and Integrating Mental Health Screening into HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Activities for High-Risk Communities”. Thirty healthcare professionals responsible for HIV prevention and control activities in Gia Lai, Da Nang, and Khanh Hoa provinces participated in the workshop.

At the workshop, delegates shared and explored topics related to mental health; the burden of mental health; risk factors in the workplace; how clients' mental health affects their health and the quality of their HIV care and treatment; related risks; the current state of mental health care in Vietnam; some common mental health problems; the impact of stress on the body; and the signs and symptoms of depression. The workshop aims to enhance the capacity of healthcare workers, especially in accessing and adhering to HIV prevention and control services in the community, thereby improving the quality of life for people at high risk of HIV infection.

This activity is part of the IMPACT Vietnam project, funded by the USCDC Vietnam. The IMPACT project, running from 2023-2028, implements innovative initiatives, creates evidence-based models for the national HIV and public health program, and strengthens best practices for disease control in Vietnam.
