The December supermoon will reach its fullness at 6:14 a.m. on December 5, Vietnam time. Therefore, the nights of December 4 and 5 are the best times to observe and take photos of the last supermoon of the year.
In Western terms, the full moon in December is called a "cold moon". This is the third supermoon in a series of consecutive supermoons since October this year.
At its absolute fullness, the Moon will be about 357,219 km (221,000 miles) from Earth, still a bit farther than November's super beaver moon (221,000 miles). However, December's weather will provide more ideal viewing conditions than November's.
The cold air with low humidity makes the sky clearer, making the supermoon appear brighter and clearer, especially when you take pictures. Vietnam's December weather is also less surrounded by rain, thus increasing your chances of seeing the supermoon at its best.
Scientists calculate that the cold supermoon will be about 8% larger and 16% brighter than a normal full moon.
After the cold supermoon, the supermoon series will continue on January 3, 2026 with the "super wolf moon".
