On May 24th, the workshop "South China Sea: Research and Development Cooperation" was held at the University of Warsaw in Poland.
The workshop was attended by over 100 scholars and researchers from Poland, Hungary, France, Germany, and Vietnam, along with guests and representatives of Vietnamese associations in Poland and Europe.
The seminar was jointly organized by the Liaison Committee of Vietnamese People in Europe “For Vietnam’s Seas and Islands”, the Association of Vietnamese People in Poland, and the Association of Vietnamese Science and Technology in Poland, with the support of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, the Vietnamese Embassy in Poland, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, and the East Sea Institute.
The event serves as a forum for scholars and scientists to present and exchange research related to the South China Sea, aiming to enhance understanding of the South China Sea among the Vietnamese community living, studying, and working in European countries, as well as international friends. Furthermore, the organizers hope the conference will help provide objective assessments of the current state of the South China Sea, encompassing its natural, economic, political , and social conditions, and call upon European Union (EU) countries and international organizations to support and fund collaborative scientific research projects related to the South China Sea.
Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs Nguyen Manh Dong emphasized that, as a coastal nation with sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos, and as a member of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, Vietnam has been promoting cooperation in many fields, both bilaterally, regionally, and multilaterally, based on the provisions of international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, for peace, security, stability, cooperation, and development.
According to Deputy Chairman Nguyen Manh Dong, Vietnamese expatriates around the world have made many contributions to the cause of protecting the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland's seas and islands.
The State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese highly appreciates and values the meaningful contributions and activities such as this conference in Warsaw, which demonstrate the love and connection between overseas Vietnamese and their homeland; the connection between all Vietnamese people in the cause of protecting Vietnam's sovereignty and the spirit that the overseas Vietnamese community is an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation.
Earlier, in his opening remarks at the workshop, Vietnamese Ambassador to Poland Ha Hoang Hai assessed the workshop "South China Sea: Research and Development Cooperation" as a timely and important initiative in the current context. According to the Ambassador, the South China Sea is of particular importance to Vietnam's security and development. Therefore, organizing this workshop helps share knowledge and in-depth understanding of important issues related to the South China Sea, while promoting solidarity among the Vietnamese community and mobilizing resources to support the cause of national defense and development.
Ambassador Ha Hoang Hai emphasized the consistent and clear policy of the Vietnamese Party and State in protecting national sovereignty and interests at sea: "Resolutely and persistently fight to protect the sovereignty and legitimate interests of the nation at sea, while proactively and actively resolving disputes and disagreements in the East Sea through peaceful means on the basis of international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea; maintaining a peaceful, stable and cooperative environment for development."
The conference also included a photo exhibition on Vietnam's islands and seas, and performances of traditional folk arts, demonstrating the spirit of connection, consolidation, and strengthening of solidarity among the Vietnamese community abroad in general and in Europe in particular.
