'Cooperatives are the pillars of the collective economy'

Speaking at the commemoration ceremony, Ms. Cao Xuan Thu Van, President of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance, urged the provincial Cooperative Alliance, member cooperatives, and collective economic organizations to closely adhere to the targets of the Resolution of the 6th Congress, the Resolutions of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance, and the provincial resolution.

Effectively perform the function of representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of members, improve the efficiency of consulting and support services for members; effectively implement trade promotion programs, combined with investment promotion, value chain building, digital transformation and improve the efficiency of cooperatives in the 2023-2025 period.

According to Ms. Van, Vietnamese people are very intelligent, diligent, and hardworking, so whatever the world can do, we can do too. Through this, Ms. Van wants to convey the message that cooperatives must be strongly developed.

"Cooperatives operate on the basis of self-responsibility, equality, and democracy. Unlike limited liability companies or joint-stock companies, where whoever has more capital makes the decisions. However, cooperatives utilize people, so human development is very important. I hope the Binh Dinh Provincial Cooperative Union will continue to research and develop specific, effective models," the Chairman of the Vietnam Cooperative Union noted.

The Chairman of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance stated that Binh Dinh province has five cooperative models but lacks an educational cooperative model. Meanwhile, in advanced countries around the world, many cooperatives, such as those in education and healthcare, operate very effectively.

"I'm giving a few examples like that so we can abandon the mindset of viewing cooperatives as just poor farmers; of seeing cooperatives only as pitiable entities that need help, without recognizing them as strengths."

"Cooperatives are vital to the collective economy, which is an indispensable component of Vietnam. Therefore, cooperatives will never cease to exist, but will only change form, moving from lower to higher and very higher levels," Ms. Van emphasized.

Applying high technology in cooperatives

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Thanh, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province, shared that over 30 years of construction and development, with 6 congresses, the Provincial Cooperative Union has done a good job of representing and protecting the legitimate rights of its members.

The Provincial Cooperative Union has promoted, encouraged, and advised on the establishment of cooperatives, and has supported them in exploiting the potential and strengths of the locality to develop production and business. This has affirmed the role and position of the collective economy and cooperatives in the socio-economic development of the locality.

To date, the province has 248 cooperatives and people's credit funds operating in various fields, providing employment for thousands of workers. Among them, more than 100 cooperatives generate profits of 200-500 million VND per year, contributing billions of VND to the state budget.

At the same time, many new cooperative models have been formed in the province, linked to product value chains and developing distinctive regional products; many cooperative products have achieved OCOP 3-star, 4-star, and 5-star certifications.

At the ceremony, Standing Vice Chairman Nguyen Tuan Thanh praised and acknowledged the efforts and achievements that the Provincial Cooperative Union has made in the past period.

At the same time, it is recommended that Party committees, authorities, the Fatherland Front and mass organizations, departments, branches, localities, and the Provincial Cooperative Union effectively implement a number of key tasks in the coming time.

"It is necessary to raise awareness of the nature, position, role and importance of the collective economy in a socialist-oriented market economy; increase the application of high technology and digital technology associated with processing and consumption according to the value chain, improve quality, efficiency, competitiveness and proactively integrate internationally," Mr. Nguyen Tuan Thanh emphasized.

President of Vietnam Cooperative Alliance Cao Xuan Thu Van presented the Emulation Flag to the representative of Bong Son People's Credit Fund.

On this occasion, the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance awarded a commendation flag to the Bong Son People's Credit Fund (Hoai Nhon town) for its outstanding performance in 2022; and presented certificates of merit to 11 collectives and 17 individuals for their excellent achievements in building and developing the collective economy and cooperatives during the 2021-2023 period.

The Provincial People's Committee awarded emulation flags to Hoai Huong People's Credit Fund (Hoai Nhon town) and An Tin Agricultural Cooperative (Hoai An district) for their outstanding overall achievements, leading the emulation movement of agricultural cooperatives in 2022; awarded certificates of merit to 9 collectives with outstanding achievements, contributing to the development of the collective economy and cooperatives in the 2021-2023 period, and 10 individuals with good achievements, contributing to the development of the Provincial Cooperative Union on the occasion of its 30th anniversary.
