According to Al Arabiya, on April 16, the Israeli Foreign Ministry launched a "diplomatic offensive" against Iran by calling on 32 countries to impose sanctions on Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Tehran's missile program.
Commenting on social media platform X, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz wrote: “Besides the military response to the missile and drone launches, I am leading a diplomatic offensive against Iran… This morning, I sent letters to 32 countries and spoke with dozens of foreign ministers and leading figures around the world, calling for sanctions against Iran’s missile project and designating the IRGC as a terrorist organization.”
In other developments, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, said that Iran had temporarily shut down its nuclear facilities due to “security considerations” following its large-scale missile and drone attack on Israel last weekend.
Earlier, in a telephone conversation with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stated that the actions of the Iranian armed forces were within the framework of legitimate self-defense and international law following the Israeli attack on the consular building of the Iranian embassy in Syria. For his part, Secretary-General Guterres called on all parties involved in the region to continue to exercise restraint; welcomed Iran's cessation of further anti-Israel activities, and urged Israel not to take any retaliatory actions in order to de-escalate tensions in the region, support peacebuilding , and prevent the spread of violence.
