Opening of the Quan The Am Ngu Hanh Son Festival 2024

On the evening of March 26, the 2024 Quan The Am Ngu Hanh Son Festival officially opened at the Quan The Am Pagoda campus - Ngu Hanh Son scenic spot, Da Nang city.

This year's Quan The Am Festival takes place over 4 days, from March 26 to 29 (from February 17 to 20, year of the Dragon), with a structure consisting of 2 parts: ceremony and festival blended together.

The ceremony includes religious rituals, praying for national peace and prosperity; the festival includes many cultural, artistic, and sports activities imbued with national cultural identity, and art performances, including the participation of traditional art troupes from countries such as Japan, Thailand, etc.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the festival, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Tran Chi Cuong emphasized that this year is the second year the Festival has been held on a city scale.

The Quan The Am Festival is one of the most unique cultural features of the Ngu Hanh Son land and the city. This is the crystallization of the values of Buddhist culture and the Ngu Hanh Son heritage, clearly expressing the harmonious combination between Buddhism and the Nation, and the Nation with Buddhism.

The festival is always an attractive destination not only for domestic tourists but also an opportunity for international tourists to experience and learn about the spiritual values imbued with the history and culture of Vietnamese Buddhism.

At the same time, this is also an opportunity to enjoy the sophistication and richness of ethnic cultural art forms; a place of convergence and cultural exchange of peoples around the world, especially countries in the Asia- Pacific region.

It is an opportunity for tourists to admire the wonderful beauty that nature has bestowed on Da Nang, that is Ngu Hanh Son scenic spot with many valuable cultural heritages that are lasting with time and are increasingly being promoted effectively.

“I hope that during the festival, distinguished guests of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, delegations of monks from countries in the Southeast Asian region who come to worship and attend the festival will retain impressive and beautiful moments of a spiritual and cultural festival imbued with humanity in the picturesque Non Nuoc region of Da Nang city,” Mr. Tran Chi Cuong emphasized.

The 2024 Ngu Hanh Son Quan The Am Festival with the main activities taking place at this year's Festival includes the Bodhisattva Quan The Am's Birthday Ceremony (Official Ceremony) taking place at 7:00 a.m. on March 28; Incense offering ceremony in memory of Princess Huyen Tran, Spring worship ceremony to pray for national peace and people's safety...

In particular, this year's Festival has many new features such as a traditional boat racing competition on the Co Co River with historical scenes reenacted on the river, a drawing contest about the Quan The Am Festival; a writing contest about works of Van Hanh Library; an Olympic run "For Peace" and many art activities, folk games...

This year, the Organizing Committee will include in the festival program the discussion "Solutions to elevate the Quan The Am Festival - National Intangible Cultural Heritage" and Quan The Am Pagoda will also open the Buddhist Cultural Museum to welcome visitors to visit and research.

Besides that, the Festival Organizing Committee focuses on ensuring security and order, traffic safety, environmental sanitation, fire prevention and fighting, and ensuring food hygiene and safety to contribute to organizing a unique and civilized Festival.

The Quan The Am Ngu Hanh Son Festival is one of the folk festivals imbued with Buddhist beliefs and religions, a unique community cultural activity, as well as demonstrating the efforts of local people in restoring and preserving the good traditional values of the nation.

In 2000, the Ngu Hanh Son Quan The Am Festival was listed by the General Department of Tourism as one of the 15 major festivals in the country. In 2021, the Ngu Hanh Son Quan The Am Festival was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. From 2023, the Ngu Hanh Son Quan The Am Festival will be organized by the People's Committee of Da Nang City on a city-level scale.
