Caring for and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of union members and workers is a fundamental function and a continuous task of the National Defense Trade Union. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army, the Labor Newspaper interviewed Colonel Nguyen Dinh Duc - Member of the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Head of the National Defense Trade Union.

How are these activities organized and implemented, Colonel? - Over more than 75 years of building, fighting, and maturing (1949-2024), the NDTU has always been closely associated with the glorious revolutionary history of the Party, the nation, and the heroic Vietnam People's Army. In each historical period, the officers, members, and workers of the NDTU have always preserved and promoted the noble qualities of "Soldier-Workers - Soldiers of Uncle Ho" and the nature and traditions of the Vietnamese working class, enthusiastically competing to overcome all difficulties and hardships, daring to think, daring to act, being creative, and striving to master science and technology, contributing to the overall strength of the Army. Given the specific characteristics of the military and its role, the Defense Trade Union has organized many activities to care for and protect the legitimate rights and interests of its members and workers, recognizing this as a fundamental function and a continuous task of the Defense Trade Union. In 2024, the Defense Trade Union Committee organized visits and gift-giving to 27 disadvantaged grassroots trade unions stationed in remote areas, with a donation of 10 million VND per union; donated gifts to 700 union members in difficult circumstances, at a rate of 500,000 VND per gift; reviewed and provided support to 1,094 union members and workers suffering from serious illnesses, with a donation of 1 million VND per gift, and to 5,102 union members with difficult family circumstances, with a donation of 500,000 VND per gift... The total amount spent exceeded 4.3 billion VND. Another activity that has been enthusiastically embraced by union members and workers throughout the military is the "Union Shelter - Comradeship and Solidarity" program. In 2024, it provided financial support for the construction and repair of "Union Shelter - Comradeship and Solidarity" housing for 39 union members with difficult housing circumstances, worth over 2.5 billion VND. This included the construction of 26 new houses and the repair of 13 houses... To ensure that activities caring for union members and workers are not only directly carried out by the Military Trade Union Committee, but also directed and guided by the Committee to ensure that grassroots trade unions throughout the military strictly implement these activities, the union organizations in all units always receive support, trust, and willingness to participate in these activities from union members and workers. The Military Trade Union has very effectively implemented the policies, guidelines, and directives of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor during the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters, floods, Tet celebrations, and Workers' Month activities... As a result, the activities of caring for and protecting union members, workers, and even non-union members have been highly appreciated by the leadership and commanders of units throughout the army, as well as officers and soldiers, thereby gaining support for the Union and attracting more union members. After a period of consultation by the Military Trade Union Committee, the Creative Labor Award in the Military Trade Union has now been officially established. Colonel, could you please explain the significance of this award? - In 2024, the Military Trade Union Committee researched and proposed the development of a Circular on the Regulations for awarding the Creative Labor Award in the military trade union, which was signed and promulgated by the Minister of National Defense . This is an important legal document specifically for trade union members in the military who annually submit projects, research topics, or initiatives in all areas of science, technology, culture, arts, education and training, medicine, and combat training that win third prize or higher. They are eligible for salary increases, promotions, and advancements in rank ahead of schedule or with their rank preserved; priority in recruitment as defense employees and professional soldiers; and a bonus equivalent to one month's salary for those reaching the maximum rank or salary grade. This is a very beneficial condition for trade union members and, consequently, attracts many officers and professional soldiers from various units to join the trade union organization. - Thank you, Colonel!
