Survey of landslide area on Rach Vop river, Ke Sach district

STO - On the morning of May 30, comrade Quach Thi Thanh Binh - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of the province organized a survey of the landslide area that had just occurred in Thoi An Hoi commune, Ke Sach district (Soc Trang). Accompanying the delegation were leaders of some units under the department and leaders of the People's Committee of Ke Sach district.

The landslide occurred at 1:00 a.m. on May 28, 2025 on the Rach Vop River, from Ms. Pham Thi Muoi's house to Mr. Truong Van Ut's house in Ninh Thoi Hamlet, Thoi An Hoi Commune, with a length of 70 meters and a width of 6 meters from the riverbank. The landslide caused part of the road to collapse into the river, affecting the travel of people in the area. The cracks are at risk of continuing to collapse, causing a lot of insecurity for people in the area.

Through the survey, Comrade Quach Thi Thanh Binh - Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment suggested that the locality should install warning signs to make people more careful when passing through the area, and temporarily reinforce the river with local funds. In the long term, the river section will be repaired with reinforced concrete embankments from medium-term investment capital (2026 - 2030 period) approved by the Provincial People's Council in Resolution No. 122/NQ-HDND, dated September 26, 2024.

The flow of some rivers and canals has changed, the water flow is strong; many large tonnage ships circulate, causing pressure on the river banks... All of these are the main reasons why riverbank erosion in many areas in Ke Sach district occurs with more seriousness each year, both in scale and scope of influence. From the beginning of 2025 to now, the district has had 11 embankment and road erosions, with a total length of 263 meters. Of which, people have rebuilt the embankment to retain water in 2 sections, with a length of 60 meters. Currently, the district has reinforced and built a section with a length of 27 meters and has surveyed and planned to reinforce and build in 2025, including 5 sections, with a length of 126 sections; 3 sections, with a length of 50 meters, have not been surveyed.

In addition to the involvement of relevant authorities, people in high-risk areas need to raise their vigilance to minimize the possibility of loss of life and property when an incident occurs, especially during the upcoming rainy and stormy season.
