Lieutenant Colonel Cao Tan Vuong, Deputy Chief of Political Affairs , Quang Ngai Provincial Border Guard Command, said that the operation of the ports ensures procedures, facilitates fishermen's entry and exit, and at the same time serves well the work of tracing origin and preventing IUU fishing.
At My A Fishing Port, seafood purchasing activities are strictly controlled. Currently, there are 4-5 traders who regularly trade and only purchase from vessels with valid records and fishing logs. Mr. Vo Minh Cuong, in charge of the Management Board of My A Fishing Port and Storm Shelter for Fishing Vessels, said that traders have been informed and strictly comply with regulations on combating IUU fishing.
Quang Ngai Provincial Border Guards coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and local authorities to work with petrol, ice, and seafood purchasing facilities to sign a commitment not to assist violating vessels. Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Trung, Head of Sa Ky Border Control Station, said that all facilities in the area have signed a commitment not to provide services to vessels lacking documents or on the high-risk list.
The fishing logistics service fleet – which is an easy link to exploit to supply and transport aquatic products for violating vessels – is also under special surveillance. Lieutenant Colonel Do Tai Nang, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Quang Ngai Provincial Border Guard Command, said the border guards have propagated, asked for commitments to be signed and continued to monitor to strictly handle any violations detected.
By expanding the fishing port system and tightening control over loading, unloading, purchasing, and providing logistics services, Quang Ngai is gradually closing the "control loop" from shore to sea, contributing to the whole country in removing the IUU "yellow card" and building a transparent and sustainable fishing industry.
