Difficult to recover 2.4 billion VND wrongly spent on "meritorious people"

(NLĐO) - Despite detection, Kon Tum province has been unable to recover 2.4 billion VND disbursed to 36 individuals who falsified or misrepresented documents to receive benefits for war veterans.

The Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Kon Tum province is urging localities to recover over 2.4 billion VND that was wrongly disbursed to war invalids and martyrs in the area.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thai Binh , Deputy Chief Inspector of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Kon Tum province, from 1997 to 2013, localities in the province improperly disbursed benefits to 36 beneficiaries of preferential policies, totaling over 2.4 billion VND.

These cases include falsifying personal information to receive benefits for war veterans, receiving benefits in two different localities, etc.

Since 2013, the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs has inspected and discovered instances of misused funds, and demanded their recovery. The Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Kon Tum province and local authorities have attempted to recover the funds, but have not yet succeeded. The reason is that out of the 36 beneficiaries, 9 have passed away, and the others are elderly, ethnic minority people in difficult circumstances, and the allocated funds have already been spent.

Recently, Ms. Y Ngoc, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Kon Tum province, signed a document directing the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to report clearly on the total number of beneficiaries who received benefits incorrectly, the number that have been recovered, the number that have not yet been recovered; difficulties and obstacles encountered, and proposed solutions for the future.

The Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs needs to continue monitoring and urging localities to fully recover the funds disbursed in violation of regulations and deposit them into the state budget.

In addition, the People's Committee of Kon Tum province requested the People's Committees of districts and cities to urgently develop appropriate plans to ensure the complete recovery of preferential allowances from individuals who received them illegally in their areas and to deposit them into the state budget.
