According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in the past month, the world has recorded more than 25,000 cases of Covid-19 in many countries. Notably, the Covid-19 outbreak is raging in Thailand, with the number of cases five times higher than diarrhea cases, ten times higher than influenza cases, and thirty times higher than food poisoning cases, causing numerous deaths and revealing the rapid spread of several new variants.
In our country, although no concentrated outbreaks have been recorded, the number of cases is trending upwards, averaging about 20 cases per week. No severe cases have been recorded, and no new variants have been detected.
The Ministry of Health has issued a notice regarding the disease situation and requested localities to strengthen measures to monitor and control the Covid-19 infectious disease, and to educate people to follow the 5 recommendations for disease prevention.
Due to its geographical location bordering Hanoi and serving as a trading and transit hub for many provinces and cities, the risk of Covid-19 spreading from other areas into our province is very high.
From the beginning of 2025 to the present, the entire province has recorded 39 cases of Covid-19 in the districts and cities of: Phuc Yen, Vinh Tuong, Tam Duong, Vinh Yen, Binh Xuyen, Yen Lac, and Lap Thach.
Compared to the same period in 2024, the number of confirmed/suspected Covid-19 cases has decreased; however, since May 17th alone, an additional 34 cases have tested positive for Covid-19. All infected cases are being treated and are in stable condition; there have been no cases of severe illness or death.
However, these are just statistics. According to the health sector, the actual number of cases in the community may be higher because many people who test positive for Covid-19 do not report it to medical facilities.
Dr. Nguyen Van Truong, Director of the Provincial Center for Disease Control, said: "Currently, as we enter the summer vacation period, the demand for tourism, travel, and trade increases, raising the risk of disease transmission. Hot weather also creates favorable conditions for viruses to develop."
Many people do not maintain the habit of wearing masks in public places and sanitizing their hands regularly. At the same time, the effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccine is limited, usually declining about 6 months after vaccination, so community immunity is now weakened.
In order to effectively control the Covid-19 epidemic and other dangerous infectious diseases, the Provincial Center for Disease Control, in coordination with health facilities in the area, is strengthening close monitoring of the disease situation, especially for cases with clinical symptoms and those returning from epidemic areas.
"Improve the effectiveness of diagnostic and testing work to promptly detect new variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus; at the same time, strengthen communication to raise awareness of disease prevention in the community."
At the Provincial General Hospital, the hospital is strengthening the implementation of the Department of Health's directives on disease prevention and control; ensuring the organization of admission, isolation, and intensive treatment, minimizing severe complications and deaths; and implementing measures to prevent cross-infection among medical staff and patient caregivers in accordance with regulations for Group B infectious diseases.
At the same time, ensure sufficient supplies of medicines, chemicals, and equipment are available for emergency care and treatment according to the "four on-site" principle. Develop response scenarios for the Covid-19 epidemic when many cases and severe complications appear, following guidance and directives from the Department of Health and the Provincial People's Committee.
The Department of Health advises people not to panic about the epidemic situation, but not to be complacent or negligent about Covid-19 and other infectious diseases.
People need to strictly follow the preventive measures recommended by the Ministry of Health, including: wearing masks in public places, on public transport, and at healthcare facilities; limiting gatherings in crowded places (if unnecessary); washing hands frequently with clean water, soap, or disinfectant; increasing physical activity, exercising, and maintaining a balanced diet. If symptoms such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath occur, go immediately to the nearest healthcare facility for examination, monitoring, and timely treatment…
