Thai Binh Economic Zone: From synchronous infrastructure to economic growth driver

Infrastructure has been invested synchronously, many eagles have returned to "build nests", tens of thousands of jobs have been created... These changes every day affirm the strategic leading role of Thai Binh Economic Zone in attracting investment and developing the socio-economy of Hung Yen province.

Lien Ha Thai Industrial Park has made its mark with high-tech, green, and environmentally friendly industrial projects.

Bringing about clear socio -economic benefits.

Established by a decision of the Prime Minister in July 2017, the Thai Binh Economic Zone, covering an area of over 30,500 hectares, is the largest coastal economic zone in the Red River Delta, comprising functional sub-zones for industry, power, seaports, urban areas, tourism and services, agriculture, forestry and fisheries, and residential areas.

The Thai Binh Economic Zone is located within the Hanoi -Hai Phong-Quang Ninh Growth Triangle, adjacent to international trade routes, giving it a distinct advantage over many other coastal economic zones. The formation of the Economic Zone has opened up new economic opportunities, creating a foundation for a predominantly agricultural province to make breakthroughs on the path to industrialization and modernization.

The Thai Binh Economic Zone has become a destination for many large domestic and foreign corporations. From 2021 to June 2025, the total registered investment capital in the Economic Zone reached VND 133,000 billion (excluding housing projects), accounting for 71% of the total investment capital in the entire former Thai Binh province. Of this, foreign direct investment (FDI) reached USD 4.3 billion, accounting for 81%.

The Thai Binh Economic Zone has attracted 5 industrial park infrastructure projects (Lien Ha Thai, Tien Hai, Hai Long, VSIP, Hung Phu), with a total investment of VND 15,236 billion. Among them, Lien Ha Thai is the first industrial park in the Thai Binh Economic Zone to make its mark as a pioneer by successfully attracting high-tech, green, and supporting industry projects. In a short period, this industrial park has attracted 51 secondary projects, with a total investment of nearly USD 1.6 billion.

Many large-scale projects are being implemented in the Thai Binh Economic Zone, such as the 1,500 MW LNG power plant (US$2 billion), the GEL O&J automobile manufacturing and assembly project (US$319 million), Compal's electronics manufacturing plant (US$260 million), Greenworks' gardening equipment manufacturing plant (US$200 million), Pegavision's contact lens manufacturing plant (US$200 million), Lotes' electronic component manufacturing plant (US$170 million), etc.

Not only concentrated within the Economic Zone, the system of industrial parks outside the Economic Zone in the former Thai Binh province also made a significant impact with 8 planned industrial parks, of which 6 have been established with an area of 875 hectares. By June 2025, these industrial parks attracted 161 projects, with a total registered capital of approximately 30,000 billion VND, including 73 FDI projects with a total capital of 800 million USD.

These figures quickly translated into concrete results. In just the first six months of 2025, businesses in economic zones and industrial parks generated nearly 41,000 billion VND in industrial production value (a 21.2% increase compared to the same period), 1.26 billion USD in export value (a 21.7% increase), and contributed over 1,500 billion VND to the state budget (a 10.4% increase), creating stable jobs for nearly 79,000 workers, of whom more than 96% participated in social insurance.

Infrastructure is gradually being improved.

Alongside attracting investment, Hung Yen province has given special priority to infrastructure development. The 34km coastal road through the province is expected to be completed in 2025, creating a transportation link connecting coastal localities from Quang Ninh to Thanh Hoa. The CT.08 expressway connecting Thai Binh and Nam Dinh, and the Thai Binh city - Con Vanh route are also under construction, creating significant transportation capacity, logistics, and port support services.

Energy infrastructure is also a highlight. The power center, with two thermal power plants totaling 1,800 MW, is already operational. A 1,500 MW LNG gas-fired power plant project is scheduled to begin construction in September 2025, promising to make the province an important energy hub in the North. Alongside this is a comprehensively invested system of substations and power grids, ensuring a reliable supply for major industrial projects.

Along with technical infrastructure, Hung Yen province also focuses on developing social infrastructure. Worker accommodation areas, social housing, and new urban areas have been approved and implemented. Specifically, in the Lien Ha Thai Industrial Park, there are 6 worker accommodation projects, providing housing for approximately 6,000 people. In addition, tourism and service projects such as the Con Vanh golf course, Saphia Hotel, and the seaside commercial and service center are contributing to shaping a new image, simultaneously industrializing, service-oriented, and effectively exploiting the economic potential of the sea.

In the near future, the Thai Binh Economic Zone will not only be a coastal economic zone, but a free economic zone – connecting the region and reaching out internationally, with four main pillars: freedom of business, freedom of capital flow, freedom of talent, and freedom of governance. A comprehensive strategy is unfolding, ready for pioneering investors with long-term vision and a desire to lead, contributing to making Hung Yen not only a "new destination" for capital, but also a "sustainable destination" on Vietnam's industrial map.
