Forecasts indicate a significant increase in passenger traffic at Tan Son Nhat Airport during the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday, potentially leading to congestion and delays. Therefore, the Southern Aviation Authority has issued recommendations and implemented measures to mitigate this situation.

On the afternoon of December 26th, at the Ho Chi Minh City economic and social press conference, Mr. Tran Van Hoach, head of the service quality monitoring department of the Southern Aviation Authority, provided information regarding the peak operation of Tan Son Nhat Airport during the Lunar New Year 2025.
According to Mr. Hoach, during the Tet holiday, the predicted large number of passengers and overloaded infrastructure will certainly lead to certain limitations such as congestion at the station and flight delays.
Therefore, the Southern Aviation Authority advises passengers to check websites in advance to bring appropriate and valid identification documents, and to continuously update flight information to purchase tickets early. In particular, it is recommended to avoid large groups of people accompanying passengers to the airport.
According to current regulations, check-in counters for domestic flights open two hours in advance. Alternatively, passengers can check in online.
Next, pay attention to the types of luggage you can bring, and any regulations regarding restrictions or prohibited items, so you can prepare accordingly. Tan Son Nhat International Airport has support staff available at the terminal for passengers to contact when needed.
"We hope the public will understand the difficulties faced by the aviation industry amidst increased travel demand and shortages of aircraft and fuel. We are striving to best serve the travel needs of our customers and minimize flight delays," Mr. Hoach said.
Regarding the specific number of passengers in 2024, Mr. Hoach stated that it will reach 39.8 million (a decrease of 2.1% compared to the same period in 2023). Of these, international passengers will reach 16.2 million, while domestic passengers will reach 23.6 million. Currently, Tan Son Nhat Airport has 51 international airlines and 6 domestic airlines operating. On average, there are 600 flights per day, serving more than 100,000 passengers.

From January 21st to February 9th, 2025, the number of flights will be increased to 48 flights per hour during the day and 46 flights per hour at night. Airlines will add more night flights to local airports and adjust their schedules to include additional flights during peak hours.
In addition, the Southern Aviation Authority has also planned to ensure and enhance security during the Lunar New Year 2025. This includes coordinating with relevant units and maintaining rapid response teams to promptly handle any "hot" situations.
At the same time, we request that the authorities increase inspections and enforcement of violations, and implement traffic diversion from a distance on the roads leading to the airport.
Along with Tan Son Nhat Airport, other bus stations have planned to serve passengers during the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dien, deputy head of the office of Saigon Transportation Mechanical Corporation (SAMCO), said that bus stations such as the new Eastern Bus Station, the existing Eastern Bus Station, An Suong Bus Station, and the Western Bus Station have all planned to serve the Tet holiday by significantly increasing the number of vehicles and drivers to best serve the people.
The peak period for the 2025 Lunar New Year is predicted to be from the 20th day of the 12th lunar month to the 10th day of the 1st lunar month, with the highest number of passengers at the Western Bus Station (Binh Tan District).
