Recycled earrings, unique woven bags of 'mommy'

The unique beauty of handmade knitted bags or earrings is always the center of attention of art fashion lovers. There are many handmade fashion brands born from the endless passion of young women who are skillful, good at housework, have a sense of fashion and aesthetics.

From childhood hobbies ...

In 2020, during her maternity leave, Le Thi Ngoc Dung (40 years old, founder of the Le's Atelier brand) decided to quit her stable job as an IT graduate to start a business making accessories from fabric scraps and other environmentally friendly materials.

Ms. Dung said that scraps of denim or brocade fabric are the "precious" materials for her "green circular" earrings.

Earrings made from scraps of fabric and brocade easily match many outfits and styles while ensuring a unique look.

The unique and exquisite items made by Ms. Dung look as if they were crafted by skilled artisans in traditional villages, and are highly favored by many customers. Initially, she supplied products to the fashion brand La Pham to complement their designs. Later, La Pham's customers fell in love with Le's Atelier and placed custom orders with Ms. Dung.

Even though she's just starting out and still has to take care of her children and manage household chores, the moments she gets to immerse herself in creating lovely handmade items like bracelets, earrings, bags, and wallets are incredibly enjoyable for Ms. Dung. She says this has been her childhood dream – to own a charming fashion boutique, drawing inspiration from the domestic skills her mother taught her years ago.

The earrings, knitted bags, crocheted items, and other accessories at Le's Atelier are all handmade by Ms. Dung herself, one by one.

...to a private handcrafted fashion brand

Ms. Dung said that each earring takes her 3-4 hours to craft. Each knitted or crocheted bag takes her from 1-2 days to a week. The longest part is "thinking up" the design and choosing the colors for the product, taking a week or sometimes even a month to find inspiration. The materials used to make Ms. Dung's products are mostly scraps of fabric from fashion. For some high-end products, Ms. Dung sources and orders materials from abroad.

Le's Atelier's fabric scrap earrings accompanied La Pham to London Fashion Week, where they were very popular with European customers.

These braided wool earrings add a vintage yet wild look to the wearer.

Ms. Dung shared: "Handmade products or handcrafted fashion items are increasingly becoming a trend loved by young people. They possess a unique beauty that cannot be found in mass-produced products. If made from natural materials such as fabric, wood, leather... or from leftover materials (following the circular fashion trend, recycling), they are also environmentally friendly. Each handmade product contains the dedication and feelings of the person who made it, creating a double value for the user, expressing profound spiritual values…".

Some products of Le's Atelier are handmade by Ms. Dung

When asked about the challenges of running a handcrafted fashion brand made from leftover fashion materials and eco-friendly resources, Ms. Dung said: "The eco-friendly and handcrafted fashion market is increasingly vibrant with the emergence of many new brands. Young people are all very creative, so they all create their own unique style from their strengths, creating a significant competitive atmosphere. Along with that, handmade products take quite a long time to produce, so wanting to produce quickly and in large quantities (to increase sales and profit) is not easy."

These handcrafted braided wool earrings are especially well-suited to velvet designs for festive seasons or formal events.

According to Dung, besides the difficulties, handmade fashion also opens up many opportunities. For example, more and more consumers are looking for unique, personal products, creating a larger market.

Furthermore, this sector also creates jobs for special workers such as housewives, the elderly, students, or traditional craftspeople, contributing to improving their overall quality of life.

"From here, the opportunities for self-development are also very good. For those who work..." "Freely create and develop your abilities while buyers can freely express and experience. Importantly, capital to build fashion brands does not need much, resulting in low risk, this is also considered an advantage," Ms. Dung added.
