Dong Nai province has just proposed to the Prime Minister to allow the establishment of a free trade zone in the Long Thanh airport urban area and surrounding areas.

In the planning of Dong Nai province for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, Dong Nai identifies the Long Thanh airport urban area as including Long Thanh district and part of Nhon Trach district.
Specifically, the Long Thanh Airport urban area and surrounding areas are oriented to plan a number of functional sub-zones with 5 development spaces including: Commercial service - financial - event organization space, international-class shopping complex around Long Thanh airport; cultural, sports, tourism and resort space; education and training research space; logistics industrial space and urban space for renovation or planning of rural residential areas within the research boundary.
According to Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee Vo Tan Duc, in the urban development planning project of Long Thanh airport and surrounding areas, Dong Nai province has also planned to form large-scale logistics zones.
To effectively exploit these logistics zones, the locality proposed establishing a free trade zone within the Long Thanh airport urban area and surrounding areas to maximize the potential and development advantages of Long Thanh airport.
