On June 23, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang was present at Lien Khuong airport to witness the event announcing this airport as the first international airport in the Central Highlands.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Phuc, Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, said that the event of Lien Khuong airport becoming an international airport has received special attention from domestic and foreign travel companies.

Ms. Baek Jinju (representative of Jeju Airlines, Korea) said: “We have currently implemented tourism connections between Da Lat and many regions in Korea. Although initially effective, because the international connection is implemented at a domestic airport, there are many procedural difficulties.
Upgrading Lien Khuong airport to an international airport is a sufficient condition to solve the problem of international tourism in Da Lat. We are very happy."
Mr. Lai Xuan Thanh, Chairman of Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), pledged to provide long-term support to open more international routes to Lien Khuong airport.
Lien Khuong airport currently has a capacity of 2 million passengers per year, this capacity will increase rapidly in the near future with the terminal expansion plan.

Mr. Le Anh Tuan, Deputy Minister of Transport, said: "In order for Lien Khuong airport to operate effectively and connect major economic centers, the ministry requests relevant units and Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee to continue to preside over and coordinate with the ministry and Vietnam Airports Corporation to deploy investment in upgrading the airport, increase efficiency and develop the airport according to the approved plan."
Lien Khuong Airport used to be the second largest airport in the South.
In 1933, Lien Khuong airport was started to be built and named Lien Khanh airport.
Later, during the Republic of Vietnam era, this airport was repaired, upgraded and renamed Lien Khuong Airport, the second largest international airport in South Vietnam.
