A veteran's 'request' and the birth of 'One lap of Vietnam'

Sharing with VietNamNet, musician Dong Thien Duc admitted to "pretending to be calm" when receiving the news that the song " A Round of Vietnam" was performed by divo Tung Duong with the Sun Symphony Orchestra (conductor Olivier Ochanine) at the National Concert "Dieu con mai 2025" taking place at 2:00 p.m. on September 2 at Ho Guom Theater.

The male musician said he doesn't rush to be happy when faced with something important, because this is something he has never dared to think about. He wants to calm himself down from bursting with emotions.

Dong Thien Duc completed A Round of Vietnam at the age of 35, although he had made a personal commitment to only write about his homeland when he was 40. The male musician realized that love for his homeland and family is completely different from love between a man and a woman. Half of the word "love" in love is not complete, but "love" for his homeland and parents is always full of emotions because there is only one.

The male musician admitted that he is not wise enough to understand all the emotions of the audience, but believes that they all share the same overwhelming feelings about the country. He affirmed: "There is only one Vietnam in the world!"

The National Concert "What remains forever " combines traditional and modern Vietnamese music , evoking deep emotions. Dong Thien Duc commented that our country has a long history of culture but will be a "lowland" if it is conservative and does not allow cultural exchange. This is the most convincing way for the world to listen, feel and recognize the beauty of Vietnamese culture.

A veteran's touching "favor"

More than 2 years ago, Dong Thien Duc met a veteran who loved A Round of Vietnam . According to him, the song evoked a sense of pride in his homeland, and did not make him feel sad because of the bombs of the past. However, the veteran still has not stopped aching over this memory, about his fallen comrades.

Dong Thien Duc was moved when the veteran asked him to compose more similar songs, because “his time was almost up”. The male musician suddenly realized that his time, as well as everyone else’s, was limited. This was a great motivation for him to compose.

In the near future, he will focus on the theme of traditional Vietnamese culture. Nearly 40 years old, the male musician begins to be moved when listening to folk songs, reformed operas, and vọng cổ. He affirms that he will create works with the most original emotions, so that the audience can contribute their opinions and improve them.

Let the audience define the style

Dong Thien Duc does not define his own style but lets the audience feel it through his songs. It is the audience who will define his style.

The male musician has no formula for composing, only following the principle: "Respect the profession, respect the audience, respect your own emotions". He believes that it is necessary to know how to "cherish" each topic, cultivating experience for the profession. He becomes the first audience to evaluate his own work. If he is not satisfied, it is not a complete work. A song that leaves an emotional impression on the listener will have a long-lasting "vitality".

Dong Thien Duc has loved Vietnamese literature and folk poetry for decades. He has a hobby of “reading anytime, anywhere”, even reading signs on cars.

He reads books to relax, not to serve his writing. According to him, reading to enrich life experiences is different from reading to find and make up for experience and knowledge: “When reading books with a calm mind, we naturally open our hearts to receive many good things that the writer has distilled with his whole life. The knowledge we need to learn is immense, the gap in life is tiny.”

Dong Thien Duc (Dang Huu Duc) was born in 1987 in Binh Dinh, currently working in Ho Chi Minh City with his wife - singer Le Thuy Anh. The male musician used to work as a programmer, opened a web design company in 2008. After a serious traffic accident in 2010, he switched to being a musician.

His first work "One More Pain" for the HKT group in 2010 marked the beginning of his career. In 2022, the composition "Ai Chung Tinh Duoc Mai" became a phenomenon with 75 million Google search results, called "national song" by divo Tung Duong, and covered by Ho Ngoc Ha, Le Quyen, Noo Phuoc Thinh...

His other notable works include: Tomorrow, Someone Gets Married (won the 2023 Blue Wave Award), Parting Lock (over 25 million views on YouTube), All or Nothing. He is currently working on new projects with Dam Vinh Hung, Dan Truong...
