Brigade 955 helps orphans continue their dream of going to school

Contributing to sharing difficulties with fishermen's families, over the years, Brigade 955, Naval Region 4 has always carried out well the activity "Navy sponsors fishermen's children".

This is an expansion and enhancement of the program "The Vietnamese Navy as a support for fishermen to venture out to sea and stay close to the sea," strengthening the close relationship between naval officers and soldiers and fishermen.

The main focus of the activity is for naval units and agencies, businesses, and organizations to coordinate in supporting and caring for orphaned and homeless adolescent children of fishermen, creating conditions for their holistic development. From 2022 to the present, naval units have sponsored 161 children of fishermen in particularly difficult circumstances.

Having been sponsored by Brigade 955, Duy gained additional emotional support in his life.

One of the godson of Brigade 955 is Tran Ngoc Duy. Duy's father was a fisherman who fished far offshore. In 2022, when Duy was in the third grade, his father was involved in a maritime accident and never returned. Duy's mother subsequently left home and disappeared. Duy lives with his elderly grandparents in Dong Hai Ward, Khanh Hoa Province. His grandparents do not have a stable income, and the family faces significant financial difficulties.

Knowing Duy's circumstances, Brigade 955, in coordination with the local authorities, has been sponsoring Duy since August 2023. The Brigade commander has mobilized resources and provides him with 1 million VND per month. Officers and soldiers of the unit have also donated a bicycle, books, school supplies, clothes, and shoes to help him attend school.

Since being sponsored by Brigade 955, Duy has not only received support for his education and medical care, but also gained emotional support, always being encouraged and cared for like family. Speaking about his studies, Tran Ngoc Duy shared: "This year I continue to be an excellent student. I will try my best to study well so that when I grow up I can earn money to help my grandparents."

The family of Ho Dan, residing in Ca Na commune, Khanh Hoa province, is classified as a poor household in the area. Dan's father died in a fishing accident, and his mother does not have a stable job, making the family's already difficult economic situation even worse. Having just finished 7th grade, Dan planned to drop out of school to work and help his mother.

Through the "Navy Sponsorship of Fishermen's Children" program, Brigade 955 provided Dẫn with a bicycle, books, essential living supplies, tuition fees, medical care, and 1 million VND per month. This also provided him with emotional support, encouragement, and assistance during difficult times.

Officers and commanders of Brigade 955 regularly visit and encourage Ho Dan and his family, helping the children stabilize their lives and strive for academic success.

For a long time, the officers and soldiers of Brigade 955 have been companions of fishermen venturing out to sea. Having sponsored two children of fishermen facing particularly difficult circumstances, the officers and soldiers of the Brigade not only provide healthcare, economic support, and medical assistance, but also care for and encourage the children to overcome difficulties, strive for success, and become independent in life.

Colonel Do Van Son, Political Commissar of Brigade 955, said: "We have decided to sponsor these children from 2023 until they reach the age of 18, hoping that they will have the opportunity to study and grow up."
