Hero in battle

80 years ago, under the direction of the Party Executive Committee of Binh Dinh province, the Provincial National Salvation Mobilization Committee held the 2nd Conference in Truong An village, Hoai Thanh commune, Hoai Nhon district (now Truong An quarter, Hoai Nhon ward) from July 17 to 19, 1945.

The conference decided to build the "Self-Defense for National Salvation" and "Iron Self-Defense" teams as the core to prepare for armed uprising when the opportunity arises; at the same time, launch a movement to raise funds to build the armed forces, provide military training for the self-defense force, forge weapons, and withdraw young people to the war zone to organize study and training.

July 19, 1945, the last day of the 2nd Truong An Conference, was recognized by the Resolution of the Provincial Party Standing Committee (17th term) on June 28, 2010 and Decision No. 1041/QD-BTL on July 2, 2010 of the Military Region 5 Command as the Traditional Day of the Armed Forces of Binh Dinh Province.

The Command of Military Region 5 encouraged and congratulated the officers and soldiers of the Binh Dinh Province Armed Forces (now Gia Lai ) for successfully completing the PT-23 exercise mission.

Speaking about the heroic tradition of the armed forces of Binh Dinh province, Major General Tran Cong Thuc, former Deputy Commander of Military Region 5 and former Commander of the Provincial Military Command, affirmed: “In the resistance wars, the provincial armed forces fought bravely, indomitably, and steadfastly, achieving many resounding victories. A typical example is the uprising of the people of Vinh Thanh led by the local Party Committee, which was the first partial uprising against the US and the puppet regime in Binh Dinh. The victory of Duong Lieu - Deo Nhong marked the maturity of the military forces of Military Region 5 and the provincial armed forces in destroying the enemy outside fortifications, breaking the enemy's strategy of helicopter transport and armored vehicle transport..., contributing to the victory of the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, liberating the South, and unifying the country".

After the complete liberation of the South, the Binh Dinh Provincial Armed Forces continued to promote the spirit of initiative and creativity, promptly stabilized the situation, arranged organization and staffing, overcame the consequences of war, and contributed to the overall development of the Military Region 5 Armed Forces.

According to Colonel Nguyen Xuan Son, Deputy Commissar of the Gia Lai Provincial Military Command, the location where the provincial armed forces were established is the starting point for the provincial armed forces, together with the army and people of the whole country, to achieve glorious feats in the resistance wars. A memorial stele and many other spacious items were built here, which have important significance in the work of educating traditions, patriotism, and national indomitable will for the officers, soldiers of the armed forces and people in the province.

In particular, agencies and units in the Provincial Armed Forces have always closely combined regular emulation with peak and surprise emulation campaigns, creating a vibrant and widespread emulation atmosphere and achieving practical results in all fields.

Talking to us about the results of the unit's activities, Colonel Mai Kim Binh, Political Commissar of the Gia Lai Provincial Military Command, said: "In recent years, the Binh Dinh Provincial Military Command (now Gia Lai) has concretized campaigns and emulation movements with many good and creative models and methods, bringing practical results in mass mobilization work, policies, in building new rural areas, civilized urban areas, and building safe areas. Creating motivation to build the Party Committee to excellently complete its tasks, the provincial military command is comprehensively strong, "exemplary, typical".

People of Ka Nau village, Van Canh district bid farewell to officers and soldiers of Gia Lai province's armed forces who have successfully completed the task of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in 2025.

Returning from the inspection trip to grasp the situation in the area, Colonel Nguyen The Vinh, Commander of the Gia Lai Provincial Military Command, was very satisfied with the performance of military and defense tasks of the units. He shared: "The armed forces of the former Binh Dinh and current Gia Lai provinces have both done a good job of advising the Party committees and authorities at all levels in building a strong national defense and increasingly solid potentials in the defense area, meeting the requirements of defense tasks in the new situation. The provincial Military Command has actively built a stable militia and reserve force in terms of quantity and quality. In particular, thanks to closely following the motto "basic, practical, solid", creatively applying 3 viewpoints, 8 principles, 6 combinations, always focusing on practice, the training quality and combat readiness of agencies and units in the provincial military have been constantly improved".

Assessing the outstanding results in building the national defense, comrade Pham Anh Tuan, Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee affirmed: "Promoting the tradition of the heroic unit, in recent years, the Party Committee, government and people of Gia Lai province have always attached importance to building strong all potentials in the military zone, consolidating the national defense associated with the increasingly solid people's security posture. That result has a very important contribution from the provincial military. Especially the coordination and advice for the Party Committee and government to closely combine socio-economic development with consolidating national defense and security, building the military zone increasingly solid".

Gia Lai Provincial Military Command awarded units with good achievements at the Conference on deploying military and defense tasks for the last 6 months of 2025.

Referring to promoting traditions and performing tasks in the coming time, comrade Ho Quoc Dung, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee emphasized: “The task of defending the Fatherland in the coming years has been and is posing high requirements. Therefore, the Gia Lai Provincial Armed Forces need to focus on building the province, communes and wards into solid defense areas; constantly improving the quality of training and combat readiness. The Provincial Armed Forces continue to promote the Emulation Movement to Win; coordinate with other forces to do well in mass mobilization work, mobilize the masses, participate in hunger eradication and poverty reduction programs, develop the socio-economy, strengthen the relationship between the army and the people, making the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers continue to shine in the new period. Proud of the tradition of the heroic unit of the People's Armed Forces, officers and soldiers of the Gia Lai Provincial Armed Forces join hands, wholeheartedly train well, practice strictly, be ready and fight victoriously in all situations.
