At the 4th Asian Para Games, Nguyen Binh An (54kg men) is one of the leading hopes in competing for the gold medal of the Vietnamese Para Weightlifting Team, along with Le Van Cong (49kg men), Dang Thi Linh Phuong (50kg women) and Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan (55kg women). This athlete born in 1985 is also the gold medal holder in the 54kg category at the 3rd Asian Para Games in 2018.

However, this year, Binh An faces great competition from rivals, including David Degtyarev (Kazakhstan), the reigning Paralympic champion, and Yang Jinglang (China), who won the 2021 world silver medal.
In fact, the competition for the gold medal between Binh An and the two opponents above was exciting and dramatic. In the first lift, while Binh An only succeeded at 174kg, David Degtyarev and Yang Jinglang conquered 179kg and 178kg respectively. In the second lift, Binh An successfully shortened the gap to 180kg, while David Degtyarev was 183kg and Yang Jinglang was 182kg. In the last lift, Nguyen Binh An successfully lifted 184kg, breaking the Asian Para Games record. However, David Degtyarev also successfully broke the Asian record with a lift of 186kg and won the gold medal, while Yang Jinglang won the silver medal with 185kg.

Sharing his feelings after the competition, Binh An said that this was the best achievement in his career and the athlete himself was also very surprised with the above achievement.
Thus, with the bronze medals of Binh An and Le Van Cong, the Vietnamese Para-weightlifting team won 2 bronze medals on the first official competition day at the 4th Asian Para Games. Tomorrow, October 24, Dang Thi Linh Phuong will compete in the women's 50kg category, and one day later, veteran athlete Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan will also compete in the women's 55kg category.
