On October 6, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion called on people to donate blood type A to ensure enough blood and blood products for emergency and patient treatment in the context of a sharp decrease in blood reserves and high demand.

According to some experts, recently, dengue fever has increased very high in Hanoi (over 2,000 cases/week), in which the number of severe cases requiring blood and platelets has increased significantly, along with the pressure to support blood and blood products for the Southwest and Central Highlands regions.

Meanwhile, the blood reserve of the Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion has recently been low, especially blood type A, at only 10-12%, while the safe reserve level requires 20-25% of the total blood volume.

On the same day, the Ho Chi Minh City Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital said that it is expected that in the next 10 days, the blood reserve in the warehouse will decrease to about 6,000-7,000 bags. Especially the situation of local blood group reduction, blood group A+. Blood group A+ accounts for more than 20% of the demand compared to other blood groups, but the acceptance rate is only about 10-15%.
