Vietnamese Family: Little girl Dang Quynh Anh and her fear because her parents are fighting illness and trying to make a living

Dang Quynh Anh (2014), is currently studying in grade 5 at Liem Chung Primary School, Phu Ly Ward, Ninh Binh Province. Quynh Anh lives with her father, mother, older sister and younger brother. Her family is in a difficult situation in the locality.

Quynh Anh’s father, Dang Van Nghi (born in 1981), was born with a disability due to Agent Orange poisoning. His right side of the body is atrophied, making him unable to do heavy work. He can only herd cows for hire to earn an income and in the past two years has received a disability allowance of 500,000 VND/month.

Quynh Anh's mother, Nguyen Thi Tham (born in 1984), also has many limitations due to slow development, poor communication, and strabismus, poor eyesight, so she cannot do heavy work. However, she still tries to help her family by washing dishes at a nearby restaurant, earning 50,000 VND per session.

Because of her family's difficult circumstances, Quynh Anh always looks shy.

Due to difficult circumstances, Quynh Anh’s older sister – Dang Ngoc Anh (born in 2009) – had to drop out of school after 9th grade and return to live with her grandparents. Currently, Anh works at a garment factory, earning about 3 million, all of which she gives to her parents to support the family.

The family's life depends mainly on the support of the grandparents. The grandfather is a veteran, has 61% disability, receives a monthly allowance of 4,600,000 VND, and suffers from diabetes and liver disease with treatment costs of about 600,000 VND per month. The grandmother is nearly 70 years old, works as a farmer on one sao of rice field, and earns just enough to cover living expenses and raise a few chickens to improve the family's meals.

Quynh Anh’s family house was built 6 years ago with land compensation money and borrowed money from her grandparents, but it is still unfinished due to lack of funds. Every day, she goes to school on her sister’s old bicycle and wears clothes given to her by others. Although she is still young, Quynh Anh is very understanding, loves her parents and only wants to live with them, afraid that her parents’ health will get worse and she will no longer be by her side.

After school, I do housework and cook for my parents to eat when they come home from work. My meals usually only have vegetables, and when my mother brings food home from the restaurant, I always give it to my parents. Quynh Anh dreams of studying well, having a stable job to support her grandparents and parents, and helping friends in difficult circumstances like her.

Despite having a disability caused by Agent Orange, Mr. Nghi still tries to herd cows for hire to support his family.

The artists encouraged Quynh Anh’s family and encouraged her older sister to return to school to continue studying and improving her knowledge. Actress Quynh Kool said she was very touched when she heard Quynh Anh express her gratitude to her parents – something that many children are often shy about saying. The actress appreciated the girl’s understanding through her daily activities to help her family.

Accordingly, Quynh Kool gave the family a new bicycle so that the children could conveniently go to school. When she learned that Quynh Anh dreamed of becoming an actress, she also gave her a television for the family to entertain and for her to have the conditions to nurture her dream.

MC Duong Hong Phuc expressed his sympathy for the extremely difficult situation of Quynh Anh's family. He admired the will to overcome of the members, especially Mr. Nghi - despite his poor health and limping, he still tried to herd cows for hire to earn money.

The understanding of Quynh Anh's sisters, always thinking about their family and trying to take care of their parents in the future, also moved him. The male MC took 5 million VND from his own pocket to support the family's living expenses.

MC Duong Hong Phuc, actor Ha Viet Dung and Quynh Kool shared and encouraged Quynh Anh's family to overcome difficulties.

Actor Ha Viet Dung also continuously encouraged Quynh Anh's family. The male guest expressed his concern for the character's parents' health as they still work every day to earn money to raise their children. With the desire to accompany the difficult situation, Ha Viet Dung donated 5 million VND to the family. The actor's wife and daughter also accompanied the filming and donated 3 million VND to each family.

After the competitions, Duong Nguyen Chuc Ly's family came in third, receiving 19 million VND; Nguyen Minh Tu's family came in second with 23 million VND; and Dang Quynh Anh's family won first prize, overcoming a special challenge and bringing home a total of 60 million VND. Thus, Hoa Sen Group awarded a total of 102 million VND to three families this week .

In addition, MC Duong Hong Phuc, actor Ha Manh Dung, actress Quynh Kool, along with other donors and local people, also joined hands to support. It is estimated that the total amount of money from the program and the support from artists and donors sent to the children this week is more than 320 million VND.
