Microsoft has just announced plans to invest $30 billion in the UK over four years, with half of the money going towards cloud computing and Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
This is the largest investment among commitments totaling $42 billion from major US technology companies, announced just as President Donald Trump arrived in the UK for his historic second state visit.
The British and American governments have also reached an agreement on cooperation in nuclear and space technology under the framework of the “Technology Prosperity Deal.”
Microsoft said this investment is the largest financial commitment the company has ever made in the UK.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella affirmed that the corporation is committed to creating new opportunities for people and businesses on both sides of the Atlantic.
He said Microsoft would invest $30 billion in the UK over four years, including designing the country's largest supercomputer.
Mr. Nadella said Microsoft currently has 6,000 employees in the UK, where the company operates numerous data centers, AI research facilities, and video game development units.
According to Stanford University's AI Index 2025 report, the UK ranks highly in private investment in AI over the past decade, but still lags far behind China and the US.
Google has also just announced it will invest £5 billion ($6.8 billion) in the UK over the next two years to boost the development of AI in the country.
Britain and the United States will also sign an agreement to accelerate the development of nuclear energy projects.
This agreement promises to shorten approval procedures and attract more new private investment to nuclear projects as the UK strives to achieve its carbon neutrality goals and ensure energy security.
