A place that preserves the soul of the land and people of Kinh Bac region.
In recent years, many foreign tourists have been attracted to the ancient temples and pagodas in Bac Ninh. These are "living museums" preserving the memories of hundreds and thousands of years, bringing people back to their roots, culture, and spirituality. A prime example is Vinh Nghiem Pagoda – the center of Truc Lam Buddhism, which still houses 3,050 woodblock prints of Buddhist scriptures, medical books, and precepts; recognized as a Documentary Heritage site under the Memory of the World Programme for the Asia -Pacific region. Stopping here, visitors can immerse themselves in a sacred and tranquil atmosphere, admire the national treasure – the set of statues of the Three Patriarchs of Truc Lam, learn about the unique architecture of the ancient structures, and experience woodblock printing to discover and appreciate the unique identity of the site.

Ambassador Hynek Kmonicek of the Czech Republic to Vietnam stated: “I am particularly impressed by the ancient beauty and unique features of Vinh Nghiem Pagoda, the birthplace and center of the Truc Lam Zen sect – a Zen tradition deeply rooted in Vietnamese national spirit. This Zen tradition is a harmonious blend of culture, nature, and belief, conveying a unique Vietnamese spirit of spirituality intertwined with everyday life.”

The Bo Da Pagoda (Van Ha Ward) is also a popular choice for many international tourists. Its unique architectural style, with moss-covered earthen walls, ancient pagoda gardens, and peaceful and serene atmosphere, provides a sense of tranquility for visitors. Recently, Vinh Nghiem Pagoda, Bo Da Pagoda, along with 10 other sites located in Quang Ninh province and Hai Phong city, were recognized by UNESCO as World Cultural Heritage sites. This affirms the enduring vitality and global significance of the Kinh Bac cultural heritage, making Bac Ninh an indispensable destination in any exploration of Vietnam. In addition, many other spiritual sites such as Phat Tich Pagoda (Phat Tich commune); Dau Pagoda, But Thap Pagoda (Tri Qua Ward)... also attract visitors from all over to worship and admire.
During their exploration of Bac Ninh, tourists can also visit and learn about the lives of people in ancient villages and traditional craft villages. From the vibrant folk colors of Dong Ho paintings, the simplicity of the traditional craft village of Tho Ha, to the soul of Phu Lang pottery… these places open a door for tourists to discover Vietnamese culture. With dedication and creativity, the artisans of Dong Ho craft village (Thuan Thanh ward) have "breathed life" into sheets of gilded paper, creating simple yet sophisticated paintings that reflect daily life and are imbued with profound and humorous folk philosophy. Living in a family with a three-generation tradition of painting, artisan Nguyen Huu Hoa said: "Every year, many international groups come here to learn about the unique features of the craft village; they enjoy observing the artisans carving wooden blocks, sketching lines, and even trying their hand at printing paintings, then cherishing them to take home as gifts. We are very happy to have contributed to spreading the unique features of our homeland to many people."
Not far away, the craft village of Phù Lãng (Phù Lãng commune) still retains the charm of an ancient village with its deep brown tiled roofs, narrow brick-paved alleys, and kilns burning brightly year-round. It is famous for its distinctive brown stoneware with eel-skin glaze, featuring exquisitely carved patterns that embody the spirit of the land and the river. Tourists enjoy following the artisans into the workshops, watching firsthand the skillful hands shaping and decorating each detail. Each product here seems to tell a story of the diligence and love for their homeland of the potters.
In the homeland of Quan Ho folk music, there are also 35 eco-tourism areas and destinations that are becoming increasingly popular with tourists, especially those seeking a balance between cultural experiences and relaxation. In the last three years, Bac Ninh province has welcomed more than 5 million tourists annually, including approximately 300,000-500,000 international visitors.

Bac Ninh boasts beautiful natural landscapes, a long-standing cultural tradition, and a rich system of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, creating a diverse and attractive cultural and tourism landscape. For example, the sweet and soulful Quan Ho folk songs of the Kinh Bac region have captivated international tourists, allowing them to clearly feel the cultural identity and depth of the Vietnamese soul. In addition, Ca Tru, Hat Then, water puppetry, and traditional festivals of the Kinh Bac region are also "spiritual specialties" favored by international visitors.

Many researchers believe that in Bac Ninh, the original and indigenous characteristics of its heritage are relatively well preserved, giving it a special vitality and appeal. The province currently has nearly 1,400 classified relics, including many religious and belief-related structures of national and international significance. In particular, the recent recognition of Vinh Nghiem Pagoda and Bo Da Pagoda as World Cultural Heritage sites by UNESCO opens up a great opportunity to promote the image of Bac Ninh globally. According to Mr. Mai Son, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, this event is not only a source of pride for officials and people in the province but also an opportunity and driving force for Bac Ninh tourism to thrive in the general development trend. Bac Ninh will strengthen coordination with Quang Ninh province and Hai Phong city to manage, protect, and promote the value of the Yen Tu-Vinh Nghiem-Con Son-Kiep Bac complex of relics and scenic spots. We should prioritize investing funds in the restoration and preservation of historical sites, as well as continuing archaeological work to discover and add truly valuable relics in order to expand the heritage area; and focus on creating unique spiritual and cultural tourism products, spreading the traditional beauty of the nation to the world.
Drawing on its rich potential, Bac Ninh province is orienting itself towards developing heritage and green experiences as part of its tourism development strategy for the coming period. This aims to connect heritage with the modern era, creating a distinction from other tourism centers nationwide. The goal is to attract approximately 12-15 million tourists by 2030, including 1.5-2 million international visitors, with increased tourism revenue making a significant contribution to the local economy. Mr. Do Tuan Khoa, Deputy Director of the Bac Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated: Along with attracting tourists, the province aims to spread the image of the Kinh Bac region, rich in cultural heritage and unique identity, to friends around the world. Particular emphasis is placed on developing cultural and spiritual tourism products, and experiencing traditional crafts associated with the Kinh Bac identity. This includes developing tours such as: Journeys to the Buddhist Heritage Region; tourism along the path of Buddhist propagation of the Truc Lam Buddhist Patriarchs; experiencing Quan Ho folk singing and traditional crafts… connecting with community-based ecotourism. Simultaneously, promote investment in tourism infrastructure, upgrade the system of accommodation and resort services to international standards, linked with local cuisine and experiential spaces.
To attract and win over international tourists, the Bac Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism continues to coordinate with localities to promote digital transformation in the dissemination and promotion of the potential, value of heritage, and traditional cultural identity. The province also strengthens international cooperation, signing tourism linkage programs with countries that have a large number of tourists interested in culture and spirituality; improving the quality of human resources, training and developing a team of high-quality tour guides and interpreters proficient in foreign languages. At the same time, it implements a community training program on sustainable tourism, raising awareness, consciousness, and responsibility among people in protecting, promoting, and spreading the value of heritage to tourists from all over the world.
