Immediately after news of the phone call broke, many Vietnamese businesses placed their hopes on positive signals regarding Vietnam-US trade relations.
Mr. Mac Quoc Anh, Vice Chairman and General Secretary of the Hanoi Small and Medium Enterprises Association, shared that the phone call between General Secretary To Lam and US President Donald Trump was a very positive step from the US side, from many perspectives.
"The business community views this phone call as a reassuring sign, because they understand that when two high-level leaders are willing to exchange views directly, frankly, and openly, difficulties related to trade barriers, tariffs, and technology are likely to be resolved more quickly and effectively," said Mr. Mac Quoc Anh.
According to Mr. Mac Quoc Anh, the phone call was also a prime example of the goodwill, genuine cooperation, and foresight of the United States towards Vietnam.
Vietnam-US relations are expected to enter a new phase of development.

According to Dr. Bui Quy Thuan, Head of the Research Committee of the Vietnam Industrial Park Finance Association (VIPFA), in the telephone conversation between General Secretary To Lam and President Donald Trump last night, General Secretary To Lam requested that the US side soon recognize Vietnam as a market economy and lift export restrictions on some high-tech goods, and strengthen cooperation in economic, trade and investment fields, especially in key and breakthrough areas such as science and high technology.
In addition, the two senior leaders exchanged views on a number of major directions and measures to promote the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the coming years.
According to Dr. Bui Quy Thuan, if the US recognizes Vietnam as a market economy and lifts export restrictions on certain high-tech goods, as mentioned in the phone call between General Secretary To Lam and President Donald Trump on July 2, 2025, it could bring significant benefits to Vietnam, such as: reducing trade barriers; US recognition of Vietnam as a market economy would help Vietnamese goods receive fairer treatment in anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations.
