According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, recently, traffic congestion in the Cat Lai port area has frequently occurred on the entrance and exit routes.

The main reason is that the number of vehicles entering and exiting Cat Lai port during the April 30 holiday and after the holiday increased dramatically by about 27,000 vehicles, while on normal days it fluctuates from 21,000 to 23,000. In addition, at some times, Cat Lai port gate had data transmission problems, causing slow vehicle entry and exit, leading to prolonged congestion.

Based on the direction of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the Department of Construction chaired a meeting with the City Police and related units to immediately propose solutions to ensure traffic order and safety in the Cat Lai port area.

Regarding specific solutions, the Department of Construction will coordinate with the City Police with the Vietnam Seaport Association, the City Transport Association and port management units to develop a comprehensive plan to regulate goods between ports in the region (Cat Lai, Hiep Phuoc, Cai Mep...).

Thereby promoting the transportation of goods by waterway to reduce the load on roads.

Regarding traffic flow, Vo Chi Cong Street (from Phu My Bridge to My Thuy intersection) will be reorganized according to the plan of dedicating a separate lane for trucks over 5 tons, container trucks; one lane for cars, passenger cars and trucks under 5 tons.

Along with that, research is being done to close and prohibit left turns at some openings on Nguyen Thi Dinh Street to increase the ability of vehicles to escape.

Departments are also considering the possibility of restricting certain types of vehicles from running during rush hours on routes leading to Cat Lai port.

At the same time, work with the Cat Lai Industrial Park management unit to unify the use of internal roads and organize traffic in the Nguyen Thi Dinh - A road area in the industrial park.

Regarding construction solutions, the project to expand bridges on Vo Chi Cong Street and other projects in the area will be accelerated.

After implementing the above solutions, the Department of Construction will continue to coordinate with the City Police to monitor and evaluate the traffic situation in the Cat Lai port area and report and ask for direction from the City People's Committee (if beyond its authority).
