On the morning of October 27, on the La Son - Tuy Loan expressway, section Km12 through the border area of Hung Loc commune and Khe Tre commune ( Hue city), a particularly serious landslide occurred, causing traffic on the route to be temporarily paralyzed.

According to CAND Newspaper reporters, heavy rain that lasted all night on October 26 and early morning on October 27 caused rocks and soil from the slope to suddenly fall onto the road, creating a layer of mud dozens of meters thick, blocking all traffic in both directions.
The landslide area is located on a steep pass with difficult terrain; the volume of rock and soil that collapsed is estimated at thousands of cubic meters. Many sections of the slope were deeply eroded by rainwater, creating large gullies, with the potential risk of further landslides if the rain does not stop.

Notably, on the La Son – Tuy Loan highway, a dangerous crack has appeared right at the landslide point of Highway 601, passing through Ta Lang village (Hoa Bac commune, Hoa Vang district, Da Nang city). This is a location with steep terrain, often affected by heavy rain and concentrated flow from the mountains, so the risk of widespread landslides is very high.
Immediately after receiving the information, the Traffic Police Department of Hue City Police coordinated with the Traffic Police of Da Nang City Police to block off the dangerous landslide area and organize traffic flow from a distance. At the northern end of the route, the Traffic Police of Hue City placed warning signs and arranged for 24/7 duty.

Meanwhile, in the South of the La Son - Tuy Loan route, Da Nang City Traffic Police arranged a team to be on duty at the Hai Van tunnel entrance, guiding vehicles traveling from Da Nang to the North in the direction of National Highway 1A, and temporarily banned all vehicles from traveling on the La Son - Tuy Loan expressway.
According to the representative of the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board - the unit managing the expressway, the initial cause was determined to be due to heavy rain lasting for many days, causing the slope to be saturated with water, leading to local landslides. Construction and maintenance units mobilized machinery and human resources to approach the scene to clear rocks and soil, dredge drainage ditches and check the slope structure. However, bad weather, heavy rain and limited visibility made the recovery work difficult.

Currently, the management unit and local authorities together with functional forces are implementing plans to isolate the landslide area, temporarily reinforce the slope and clear the flow, and at the same time arrange forces to be on duty 24/24h to promptly detect unusual developments. All vehicles are required to temporarily stop circulating on the route to ensure absolute safety.
According to the Central Hydrometeorological Station, in the past 24 hours, there has been very heavy rain in the Central region. The meteorological agency warns that heavy rain in a short period of time can easily cause flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, especially in locations with weak terrain and high slopes such as La Son - Tuy Loan area; at the same time, the risk of flooding in low-lying areas in the plains is very high.

Authorities recommend that people and drivers absolutely do not travel on the La Son - Tuy Loan route until there is an official announcement to clear the route, to ensure the safety of life and property in the current extremely complicated weather conditions.
Due to the complicated situation of rain and floods, Hue City Police have just issued a warning to vehicles traveling on the La Son - Tuy Loan Expressway to be careful. According to Hue City Police, recently, there have been cases of vehicles skidding or flipping over when cornering, braking suddenly or driving at high speed on this route.

Due to the nature of the route passing through complex mountainous terrain, with many high cliffs and steep slopes, the risk of landslides is always present during the rainy and stormy season; prolonged heavy rains weaken the rock and soil structure, easily leading to landslides and subsidence, endangering people and vehicles on the route.
Hue City Police recommends that people traveling on the La Son - Tuy Loan Expressway need to raise their awareness of self-protection, strictly comply with speed regulations, reduce speed when entering corners, drive slowly and keep a safe distance. At the same time, proactively check the brake system, tires and lights before the trip. Drivers need to pay attention to warning signs, not to overtake recklessly, not to brake suddenly on slopes or corners, and should proactively find a safe stop to rest when it rains heavily or is foggy until the weather improves.

In addition, drivers need to pay close attention to points such as: mud and fallen trees; strictly follow warning signs; observe when passing through sections of road with steep cliffs with unusual signs of new cracks, scattered rocks and strange noises. When there are signs of landslides, drivers must not try to pass. At the same time, they need to stop at a safe location, far from the dangerous area, turn on the warning lights and immediately notify the authorities for timely handling measures.

On the morning of October 27, in Hung Loc commune - near the area where the La Son - Tuy Loan highway landslide occurred, there were many low-lying areas isolated by floodwaters. The commune police force urgently coordinated with forces participating in protecting security and order at the grassroots level and local authorities to organize the evacuation of the elderly, children, and pregnant women to a safe place. Dozens of officers and soldiers supported people in raising and moving furniture and livestock, limiting damage caused by flooding, and were on duty 24/7 to be ready to rescue in case of emergency.
Also this morning, on National Highway 49A at Kim Quy Pass in Village 4, Binh Dien Commune (Hue City); the only road from the center of Hue City to the local mountainous communes suffered a serious landslide.
At the scene, a large amount of rock and soil from the mountain spilled onto the road, making it impossible for vehicles to pass. Authorities are mobilizing manpower and machinery to clear the road, ensuring the vehicles can pass and avoiding traffic jams.
* As of this morning, October 27, traffic conditions through Lo So Pass (Quang Ngai Province) are still not normal. The Traffic Police Department of Quang Ngai Province recommends that people and drivers temporarily refrain from traveling through Lo Xo Pass and Ho Chi Minh Road (QL14) because this area is experiencing serious landslides, causing isolation and potential safety risks.
Previously, on October 26, prolonged heavy rain caused landslides on National Highway 14 at Km 1403 and Km 1430 +300, Km 1411 +400, Km 1409 +100 and Km 1411 +500 in Dak Plo commune, Quang Ngai province. Traffic on the route was completely paralyzed from noon of the same day.

A representative of Road Management Area III said that on the Lo Xo Pass section, there were 7 landslides with a volume of earth and rock of about 3,000m3. Particularly in Dak Pek Commune, Quang Ngai Province, there was a landslide at Km 1430+500. Due to the severe landslides on the Lo So Pass section as mentioned above, traffic on National Highway 14 in both Da Nang City and Quang Ngai Province was in a state of serious congestion.
To ensure traffic safety on the route, the authorities have put up warning signs and sent out information to vehicles to choose neat parking spots, away from the slope area to minimize damage caused by possible landslides.
Immediately after the landslide caused traffic jam, Road Management Area III informed the Department of Construction and the Traffic Police Department of Da Nang City and Quang Ngai Province; and the media to inform vehicles and proactively plan their travel routes. There is still heavy rain in the area. Relevant units are still focusing on urgently clearing the landslide to clear a section of the road as soon as possible.
