TPO - The Toad Fountain, located in the Dien Hong Flower Garden (Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi), has just completed the dismantling, restoration, renovation, and repair process, ensuring that the century-old value of this unique structure is preserved.

On December 31st, Hanoi: The Hoan Kiem district (Hanoi) held an inauguration and exhibition showcasing the dismantling, restoration, renovation, and repair of the Toad Fountain – a century-old structure located within the Dien Hong Flower Garden.

According to Pham Tuan Long, Chairman of the Hoan Kiem District People's Committee, as assigned by the city, the district began renovating the technical infrastructure of Dien Hong Flower Garden in 2022 and completed it in 2023. At that time, the district also considered restoring the Toad Fountain, but lacked the necessary technical conditions and was not confident in the implementation plan.

"Subsequently, with the support of domestic and international experts, the district proceeded with the restoration of this building. This is not a large project, but it is significant in terms of preserving historical relics," Mr. Long said, emphasizing that the project has met the requirements set by experts.

Professor Hoang Dao Kinh, an expert on heritage and heritage restoration, assessed that Hoan Kiem district had "appropriately handled" the Toad Fountain with minimal intervention: dealing with trees encroaching on the fountain; restoring and preserving the original architectural and artistic features of the structure; and preserving the "age" of the structure... Professor Kinh noted that the objectives set when restoring the structure were fully achieved, without the need to add new materials or structures...

Architect Emmanuel Cerise, Director of the Paris Region International Cooperation Support Agency in Vietnam, also acknowledged that the Frog Fountain is a "unique and one-of-a-kind" structure in Hanoi. This presented many challenges during the restoration and renovation process. However, thanks to the effective collaboration of domestic and international experts, the restoration and renovation were successful.

"Because there are not many archival records of the structure left, we had to resort to dismantling a large part of the fountain's structure. This also provides an opportunity to learn about the fountain's operating principles, water channels, pumps, and unique structure," said architect Emmanuel Cerise.
