The US hopes that Secretary of State Blinken's recent visit to Beijing will accelerate the process of de-escalating US-China tensions, and is also urging China to encourage North Korea to participate in negotiations.

On June 21, US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel reiterated the statements made by Secretary of State Antony Blinken during his meeting with his Chinese counterpart Qin Gang in Beijing earlier this week, affirming that China has the ability and responsibility to invite North Korea to participate in negotiations.
Commenting on the possibility of a "thawing" in US-China relations positively impacting the North Korea issue, Patel emphasized that this was something the US Secretary of State had directly raised during his trip. Specifically, Beijing could leverage its influence with North Korea to encourage Pyongyang to negotiate and end what is perceived as escalating tensions.
On the same day, the White House affirmed that the US Secretary of State's trip had yielded some positive results and expressed hope that the event would accelerate the process of "de-escalating" US-China tensions.
Earlier, China protested Biden's remarks about Chinese President Xi Jinping at a fundraising event in California. Beijing called the statement "a blatant political provocation."
