On September 5, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy held the Opening Ceremony for the 2025-2026 academic year. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Tri Thuc, the board of directors, staff and lecturers, along with thousands of new students and postgraduates.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Tri Thuc emphasized the special significance of the new school year as it takes place at a time when the whole country celebrates the 80th anniversary of National Day, the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of National Education and Resolution 71-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in education and training development.
He advised the students: “If you want to become a doctor, you must study for life. You should study and do scientific research to contribute to making the country’s medicine famous. If you want to go far, you must go together - solidarity and sharing will be the foundation for sustainable development.”

The Deputy Minister also praised the school's efforts in pioneering the innovation of medical doctor training programs according to competency standards, establishing additional member schools and expanding majors in line with modern medical trends.
The Ministry of Health expects that Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy will continue to develop into a leading center for training, research and application of advanced medicine, playing a core role in the country's medical human resource training system.

At the ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Quoc Dat - Principal of the school summarized the outstanding results of the past school year: the school currently trains 16 undergraduate majors with more than 11,200 students, of which the percentage of good and excellent students is over 30%. In the 2025 enrollment alone, 2,576 enrollment targets have been filled, the school's valedictorian is student Tran Duc Tai, majoring in General Medicine with an absolute score of 30/30.
The school currently has 169 postgraduate majors/specializations. The student enrollment rate is 100.5%, demonstrating the growing trust of society in the training quality of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Quoc Dat affirmed: “Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy will continue to adhere to the goal of reaching international standards, promoting scientific research, applying artificial intelligence, digital medicine, and focusing on training medical human resources that are both virtuous and specialized.”

In an emotional speech, the school's valedictorian Tran Duc Tai - a new medical student with a perfect score of 30 - expressed his pride on behalf of nearly 2,600 classmates: "We understand that the road ahead is not easy. But with the support of teachers, the sharing of friends and belief in ourselves, we will have enough courage to overcome everything to become true doctors."
Tran Duc Tai (former student of Nguyen Khuyen Secondary and High School (HCMC) is the only candidate to achieve 30/30 points in three subjects: Math - Chemistry - Biology in the 2025 high school graduation exam. This achievement made the male student the valedictorian of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy and received a full scholarship for the first year of study.
