On December 7, An Binh Hospital (HCMC) announced that it had just performed emergency surgery to remove a foreign object, a phone charger cord, from the bladder of a 16-year-old male student.
According to the statement, about two weeks before being hospitalized, the male student watched an online video instructing how to "create a strange feeling" and followed suit by inserting a phone charger into his urethra.
After pushing it in deep, I couldn't take it out myself, the charger then moved into my bladder.
Because she was afraid of being scolded, she kept it a secret until the painful urination gradually increased, forcing her to inform her family and be taken to the emergency room of An Binh Hospital.
At the urology department, the male student was examined by Master, Doctor Tang Chi Quyen (urology unit, An Binh Hospital), consulted and determined to have a foreign object in his bladder.
The male student was assigned to emergency endoscopic surgery to remove the foreign object. The surgery lasted about 30 minutes. The team encountered many difficulties because the charger cord was coiled into many loops, and part of it had rotted due to being in the urine for too long.
Thanks to the smooth coordination and timely handling of the surgical team, the foreign object was removed safely and completely. After surgery, the patient's condition was stable.
The treating physician provided psychological counseling to the patient and his family, and warned about the serious risks when children imitate unverified online content, especially related to private areas and reproductive and urinary health.
