Lines of injured people lay outside the emergency ward of a 1,000-bed hospital in Myanmar’s capital Naypyitaw. Some were writhing in pain, others were still in shock from the powerful earthquake.

Many of the injured were taken to hospitals in the Myanmar capital by cars or pickup trucks, while others were carried on stretchers, their bodies covered in blood and dust. Some cried in pain, while others lay still with IV lines hanging nearby.
A hospital official described it as "a mass casualty site" and asked journalists to leave the treatment area.
The hospital itself was also hit by the earthquake and its aftershocks. The hospital’s emergency department was severely damaged. A car was crushed under concrete at the entrance.

A doctor at the hospital confided: "There are so many injured people coming to the hospital, I have never seen anything like this before. I am exhausted."
"Hundreds of injured people are arriving but the emergency building here has also collapsed," a security official at the hospital added.
General Min Aung Hlaing, leader of Myanmar's military government, visited the hospital and examined the condition of the injured.
Blood demand has soared in Myanmar hospitals as medical staff scramble to care for the earthquake victims. The worst-hit areas, including Mandalay, Sagaing and Naypyitaw, are struggling to get the blood they need, according to Major General Zaw Min Tun, spokesman for the Myanmar military government. He urged blood donors to contact hospitals as soon as possible.
The road to one of the biggest hospitals in Naypyitaw is jammed with traffic, the Independent reported.
WHO activates emergency system to respond to Myanmar earthquake
The World Health Organization (WHO) said it has activated its emergency management system to respond to the major earthquake that struck Myanmar and is mobilizing its logistics center in Dubai to prepare emergency supplies.
WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris said the organization is coordinating the earthquake response from its headquarters in Geneva because what has just happened in Myanmar is a very serious threat to human life and health. She noted that WHO will focus on sending essential medicines.
