“Vietnam Day Abroad 2023” - Bringing Vietnam's image to South Africa, France and Japan

On the morning of September 8, 2023, in Hanoi, the Department of Cultural Diplomacy and UNESCO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held a press conference to announce the series of events "Vietnam Day Abroad 2023". This year's program will bring the image, country and people of Vietnam to 3 continents.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and South Africa, the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and France and Vietnam and Japan, the program "Vietnam Day Abroad 2023" will be held with many meaningful and unique activities, contributing to strengthening the friendly relations between countries, while promoting Vietnam to international friends.

The national promotion program "Vietnam Day Abroad 2023 " will be chaired and organized by the Department of Cultural Diplomacy and UNESCO ( Ministry of Foreign Affairs ) in South Africa, France, and Japan.

In addition to activities of political significance, "Vietnam Day Abroad 2023" also organizes many seminars and forums to promote economy, trade and investment, performances and interactive exchanges imbued with Vietnamese culture, notably the Vietnamese Cultural Space with the theme "Origin, Vitality and Continuity".

Mr. Hoang Huu Anh, Deputy Director of the Department of Cultural Diplomacy and UNESCO, Head of the Organizing Committee said: “According to tradition, the series of events of Vietnam Day Abroad includes many activities in all three fields of politics, culture and economy. For this year's program, the Organizing Committee has made appropriate adjustments to each location. The goal of the event is to convey the image of the country and people of Vietnam, rich in cultural traditions but still dynamic and developing, to the public in South Africa - where Vietnam can promote cultural exchanges, and Japan, France - two cultures that are somewhat more "familiar" to the Vietnamese people" .

Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen, Director of Dong Do Performance and Event Services Joint Stock Company, shared about the art performances in the event series: “The performances in the Art Program are built according to a story called Vietnamese Colors, connected through stories spanning from North to South. Vietnamese Colors are different in each region, and are also stories of intangible cultural heritages recognized by U NESCO . The story takes people back to a day in Vietnam, from the early morning dawn in the northern mountains to the hustle and bustle of the southern lands”.

This year, the Vietnam Cultural Space brings together many young artisans and cultural practitioners, bringing highly interactive and experiential activities such as making lacquer paintings and Dong Ho folk paintings, molding To He toys, trying on and taking photos with Nguyen Dynasty costumes, and experiencing Vietnamese cuisine. The Cultural Space also displays photo exhibitions on diplomatic relations, photo exhibitions on heritage, the country and people of Vietnam, thereby portraying the image of a friendly and unique Vietnam to international friends.

Opening the series of events, the Program will take place in the capital Pretoria of South Africa on September 14-15, 2023, marking the first time "Vietnam Day Abroad" is held in South Africa in particular and Africa in general. The Program will carry out many activities such as Vietnamese Cultural Space, Art Performance Program combined with the 30th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between the two countries, Vietnam - South Africa Business Forum...

After South Africa, France and Japan will be the next destinations for the “Vietnam Day Abroad 2023” event series. The programs are expected to be held in November and December to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Vietnam establishing diplomatic relations with these two countries.

With the appearance of new elements, "Vietnam Day Abroad 2023" is expected to create a distinct highlight about a Vietnamese culture with a long tradition that continues to rise strongly with youthful, modern vitality.

“Vietnam Day Abroad” is a national promotion program that the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to organize annually since 2010. The program always receives the participation and widespread response of localities, businesses, agencies, organizations, international friends and the Vietnamese community abroad.
