On August 21st, the Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Court opened the first-instance trial of defendant Tran Van Ty (born in 1996, residing in Binh Tien commune, Huong Tra town, Thua Thien Hue province) on the charge of "Murder".
According to the indictment, at approximately 4:30 PM on August 1, 2023, Tý was invited to the home of Mr. Trần Ngọc Th. and Ms. Văn Thị Bích L., who live in the same commune, for a meal and drinks.
At around 9 PM that same day, Mr. Th. got up to sing karaoke, while Ms. L. sat at a table in front of the house with Tý and two others. At this time, suspecting Tý of having an affair with his wife, Mr. Th. and Tý had a conflict. Mr. Th. hit Ms. L. twice in the face, causing her to flee inside the house; Mr. Th. and Tý continued to argue until others intervened, at which point Tý left on his motorbike.
When Tý was about 60 meters from Mr. Th.'s house, he saw a house using iron bars as a fence. Tý stopped his motorbike, took a bar over 1 meter long, then drove back to Mr. Th.'s house and repeatedly struck Mr. Th. twice on the head, causing him to collapse unconscious. Mr. Th. was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment and was assessed a 41% disability rating.
