In a phone call with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stressed: “As long as the US supports the Jewish regime (Israel) and continues the war... there is a high possibility that the regional situation will explode uncontrollably.”

According to the Iranian diplomat , US support for Israel “has made it difficult to achieve a lasting ceasefire.” Foreign Minister Abdollahian also called for the immediate opening of the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt to allow humanitarian aid into the blockaded territory.

In addition, Mr. Abdollahian affirmed to Mr. Guterres: “The Israeli government’s claim that Hamas violated the ceasefire is completely false.” However, he praised Secretary-General Guterres’ decision to invoke Article 99 of the UN Charter as “a courageous act to maintain international peace and security.”
