On July 13, the School of Business and Administration, Vietnam National University, Hanoi held a ceremony to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its founding (July 13, 1995 - July 13, 2025) and received the Second-class Labor Medal from the President.
This school was established following the initiative of fundamental innovation in universityeducation by the late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet and was granted special autonomy by the late Professor Nguyen Van Dao, the first Director of Hanoi National University.
Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Dinh Phi - Principal of the School of Management and Business said that at that time, Professor Nguyen Van Dao said that "everything except money". That means the State provides mechanisms and policies but does not provide money, and the school must find its own way to build facilities, human resources, and academic foundation "from zero".

Starting from zero budget, according to Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Dinh Phi, over the past 30 years, the school has achieved many successes. This is thanks to the contribution of a large team of professors and leading experts from defense science, security science, management science, economics , education, technology, etc. who supported, assisted and directly advised. Thanks to that, the school can break down some barriers to create a new academic school, not following behind, imitating or copying from foreign countries.
“On this journey, we cannot fail to mention the great teachers who have stood by the school and the courageous will to be independent when they had nothing. In addition, the school's board of directors and teachers have accepted the trade-offs, sometimes having to put on the scale the possibility of losing their jobs if they cannot be independent. That is a very difficult problem when an autonomous unit has nothing but wants to follow international standards,” said Mr. Phi.
Starting from zero VND, the School of Business and Administration has completed its operational apparatus and built an interdisciplinary academic ecosystem. This is also the first school in Vietnam to pioneer the opening of a non-traditional security academic school - a completely new field in our country.
With the achieved results, at the 30th anniversary celebration, the school received the Second Class Labor Medal from the President.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son said that the School of Business and Administration has many unique features in the system of units under/affiliated to the Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The school has majors related to new fields such as non-traditional security management, sustainable development management, etc.
“Today’s world is transforming rapidly with profound and rapid changes. The breakthrough development of science and technology, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, circular economy... along with global challenges such as geopolitical issues, climate change, epidemics, non-traditional security... are posing urgent demands for all countries, including Vietnam.
With its position, tradition, and solid foundation, I hope that the school will continue to achieve many achievements in the future, contributing to the overall development of Hanoi National University and the country's higher education sector," said Mr. Son.
