Livestock farmers expect a profitable end-of-year breeding season due to increasing market demand for livestock products, especially during the peak period of the 2026 Lunar New Year.
The market is improving.
Recently, livestock products such as poultry and pork have seen significant price increases compared to a month ago. Specifically, the current price of live pigs ranges from 59,000 to 60,000 VND/kg, an increase of about 5,000 VND/kg compared to last month. The price of industrial white chickens ranges from 33,000 to 36,000 VND/kg, industrially raised native chickens from 55,000 to 65,000 VND/kg, and free-range chickens from 80,000 to 90,000 VND/kg… Among these, poultry meat prices are currently higher than other livestock products.
Mr. Mach Chi Hung, a free-range chicken farmer in Cam My commune, said: "For about a month now, the price of free-range chickens, especially capons, has increased significantly. Specifically, the price of free-range chickens sold at the farm is currently 80-90 thousand VND/kg, an increase of about 10 thousand VND/kg compared to last month. Capons, in particular, are now selling for 120-130 thousand VND/kg, whereas last year, even during the peak of the Lunar New Year, they only sold for 100 thousand VND/kg. At this price, farmers are achieving very good profits."
Currently, the province's total pig population is nearly 4.2 million. The total poultry population is approximately 36.5 million, of which the total chicken population is nearly 33.3 million. With the current population, the province's livestock industry ensures an abundant supply of livestock products for the year-end market.
According to owners of industrial chicken farms, the selling price of industrial chickens fluctuates daily, following an upward trend. At one point, the market price reached 38,000 VND/kg. At this price, farms applying high technology to reduce production costs while achieving good productivity can earn profits of tens of thousands of VND per kilogram.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, owner of a pig farm in Xuan Loc commune, said: "In previous months, African swine fever was spreading rapidly, and the price of live pigs dropped sharply, causing difficulties for farmers. Many small-scale farmers, fearing losses, reduced their herds. However, the price of live pigs is now gradually recovering and has reached a level where farmers can make a profit. We farmers hope that the live pig market will continue to improve, especially during the peak of the Lunar New Year 2026, so that farmers can make a profit to compensate for the difficult period we have just experienced."
According to many livestock farmers in the province, the reason for the recent rapid increase in livestock product prices is due to strong market demand. Meanwhile, due to the impact of diseases and natural disasters, supply has decreased compared to before. Livestock farmers in the province all expect livestock product prices to continue rising during the peak market period of the 2026 Lunar New Year.
Opportunities for strong growth in poultry farming.
Poultry farming has many opportunities for development and is expected to receive significant investment from many localities in the coming period.
Mr. Ho Le Minh, an official of the Tan Hung Commune Farmers' Association, shared: Livestock farming is a strength of the locality, especially the strong development of both broiler and egg-laying chickens. Accordingly, the locality is very interested in supporting livestock farmers to connect with and expand markets for their products, ensuring a more sustainable outlet. Therefore, the locality has supported farmers in establishing cooperatives to link them in both production and consumption.
According to the Vietnam Poultry Association, the current production capacity of businesses and households is sufficient to meet year-end consumption needs, even during the peak Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday in 2026. Furthermore, egg and chicken meat exports are showing promising signs. In the third quarter of 2025 alone, Vietnam exported approximately 15 million breeding chickens and nearly 4 million broiler chickens to Cambodia. Many businesses have signed export orders for eggs and chicken meat to Cambodia until the end of the first quarter of 2026. This presents an opportunity for the poultry industry to continue its strong development in the coming period.
Mr. Le Van Quyet, Director of Long Thanh Phat Cooperative (Long Thanh commune) - the cooperative with the largest industrial chicken farming scale in Vietnam - commented: "For the past two years, the price of industrial chicken products sold on the market has always remained stable at a high level. The market for white chickens is always guaranteed because industrial chicken meat products are supplied not only to the domestic market but also exported to other countries. The opportunity for developing white chicken farming is still very large because the potential for consumption in both the domestic and export markets is growing well."
