The Lunar New Year has just passed, the peach blossom season has just ended, gardeners in Nhat Tan village (Tay Ho, Hanoi) are busy returning to their gardens, taking care of old peach trees to have products in time to serve people during the Tet season next year.

At this time of year, the working atmosphere at the gardens in Nhat Tan peach village is no less bustling than before Tet. Peach trees brought during the year to decorate spring for every home are being collected for planting and care.

According to garden owners, peach trees displayed during Tet are quite weak and easily damaged, so replanting them early will have a higher recovery rate.

Reviving peach trees takes a lot of time and effort. After taking the peach trees home, gardeners must replace the soil to increase nutrients. The new soil is mainly clay mixed with loam so that the trees can grow well. Then, gardeners must water and monitor the trees daily to promptly handle bad situations such as tree death, root rot, etc.

Pruning peach trees is a very important step, so as not to waste nutrients to nourish the tree, helping the tree to have new branches, more buds and more flowers.

The peach trees during the rental period are also likely to die due to lack of careful care. Just a few old trees being damaged is a huge loss for the gardener. After the trees are brought back, they are properly cared for and it takes 2-3 weeks to know which trees are weak and damaged."

Peach trees are pruned, branches and remaining buds are trimmed to help them recover after a long time of growing flowers for Tet guests. Around the 8th lunar month, the branches are bent to shape and position. Near Tet, leaves are removed and fertilizer is applied to help the trees bloom on the right day.

Having just visited the trees, Ms. Nguyen Bich Ha (owner of Nhat Tan peach garden) said that most of the peach trees brought to the garden at this time are rented. "During the recent Lunar New Year, my garden rented out about 200 trees. These peach trees are all old trees so they are only rented out and few people dare to spend money to buy them for Tet."

Peach trees in Nhat Tan are entering the process of revival, carrying the wishes of peach growers for a year of favorable weather and a new bumper crop.
