Each person had their own feelings, but everyone was bustling with joy. In areas with historical relics such as: Reunification Palace, War Remnants Museum, Nha Rong Wharf, Bach Dang Wharf... or areas with parade rehearsals in District 1, District 3, the atmosphere was even more bustling. Everywhere you could see the national flag. Many people wore red flag shirts with yellow stars, holding the flag high in their hands or sticking the flag on their faces and chests while walking on the street. The atmosphere of the nation's happy day brought people closer together, those who met for the first time did not hesitate to exchange warm smiles, giving each other affectionate looks. And everyone was eager to take pictures to capture the beautiful spaces and moments...

Returning to Ho Chi Minh City for the first time since the liberation day, Mr. Hoang Ngoc Hue (over 70 years old), a veteran from Nghe An, could not hide his emotions. This journey was not just a trip, but also a return to memories of a time of war, recalling the heroic days that he and his comrades experienced during the resistance war.
“On April 30, 1975, our army entered Saigon in the final campaign. The feeling at that moment was overwhelming and unforgettable. Although time has passed, the echoes of victory and the image of the red flag with yellow star fluttering in the Saigon sun that day are still intact in the minds of old soldiers like us,” said Mr. Hue.

This time returning, the veteran quietly walked through the bustling streets, admiring the high-rise buildings, modern roads and people living in peace. He was moved: “The country has changed so much but still retains the spirit of the day of unification. I feel proud because the sacrifices of our ancestors that day were not in vain.”
The trip back to Ho Chi Minh City not only brought luggage, but also a whole world of memories. For Mr. Hue, this anniversary is not simply a ceremony, but a gratitude - a reunion between the past and the present, between comrades and homeland.
Mrs. Tu was happy to join in the atmosphere of celebrating April 30 in Ho Chi Minh City. |
Mrs. Tran Thi Tu (76 years old), from Thanh Hoa, flew to Ho Chi Minh City to wait for the April 30th victory celebration. “My generation and the generation before me are lucky to be able to live in the atmosphere of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country like this. I find the city named after Uncle Ho so wonderful, everywhere there are colorful flags and flowers, the people are friendly and gentle, welcoming everyone sincerely like family members,” Mrs. Tu shared.
To enjoy every moment in Ho Chi Minh City, Mrs. Tu bought a set of Vietnamese traditional clothes, a checkered scarf, a hat painted with a red flag with a yellow star, etc. and took pictures with the city's monuments to show off to her children and grandchildren.
Ms. Vo Thi Thuy Trang, from Binh Dinh, was equally happy. She and her family arrived in Ho Chi Minh City a few days ago. She woke up at 4am to visit the historical sites. “I am old and afraid of crowds, so I wake up very early or go late at night to take pictures because Ho Chi Minh City is less crowded at that time. It is the first time in my life that I have seen such a bustling atmosphere,” Ms. Trang confided.

More than anyone else, the people of Ho Chi Minh City feel the difference of this once-in-a-half-century celebration. Every house and every person is excited to hang flags and flowers, and every afternoon they pour into the streets to wait for the parades, excitedly welcoming people from all over the country as well as international visitors to the City...
Ms. Lieu's family in Binh Chanh district happily took photos at dawn on a historic April day. |
Ms. Lieu's family in Binh Chanh district went to the center of Saigon early in the morning. Walking slower than usual because they wanted to preserve every sacred moment, looking at the children laughing happily, the old people silently watching the City, Ms. Lieu felt "her heart was filled with warmth. Saigon today is beautiful in a very different way - not only because of the lights, but because of the patriotism spreading throughout the space"...
