Quang Chieu Border Guard Station gives study corners and warm clothes to students in border areas.
Pham Van Duc, born in 2015 in Pieng Tat village, Muong Chanh commune, spent his childhood without parental love. His parents died early, leaving him with only his elderly grandparents as support, despite their declining health over the years and illness. The difficult life made Duc's path to education fragile and possibly halted. Knowing Duc's situation, in 2022, Quang Chieu Border Guard Station sponsored him and provided him with 6 million VND along with books and clothes each year so that he could confidently go to school.
Together with Duc, Quang Chieu Border Guard Station is supporting 26 students in the project "Army officers and soldiers help children go to school", with the amount of 750,000 VND/child/month; sponsoring 6 children in the program "Helping children go to school - adopted children of the border guard station", including 2 Lao students, with the amount of 500,000 VND/child/month. The unit also effectively coordinated the program "Accompanying women in the border areas", supporting 2 children with savings books worth 5 million VND in the model "Godmother - adopted children of the border guard station".
Many times, seeing students in the border areas having to bend down on old plastic chairs, placing their notebooks on rice bags or the edge of the bed to write, the border guards could not help but feel sad. From that anguish, the model "Border study corner, for a bright tomorrow" was born, providing poor students with standard desks and chairs. Up to now, Quang Chieu Border Guard Station has donated 34 study corners with pens and school bags to students in the border areas. Major Nguyen Quang Huy, Deputy Political Commissar of Quang Chieu Border Guard Station, shared: "This is not only a support model, but also the heart of the border guards sent to the children in the border areas".
Currently, the model “Border learning corner, for a brighter tomorrow” has spread and expanded to many other border posts in Muong Lat district (old). From the end of 2022 until now, 118 sets of desks, chairs, study lamps and study tools have been given to poor students.
From the high, cloud-covered mountains to the white-capped sea, the love between the army and the people still flows steadily like a warm source. In Yen Loc village, Van Loc commune, the story of Bui Thi Ha Linh, born in 2014, continues to show those marks. Linh's family, which was already in difficulty, had many times thought about dropping out of school to help the family. At that time, the soldiers of Da Loc Border Post became a support. In 2023, the unit sponsored her, supporting her with 6 million VND/year and clothes, books, and school supplies. That was the door for her to keep her dream for the future.
Linh's story is just one of many journeys supported by the love of the green-uniformed soldiers. Lieutenant Colonel Duong The Anh, Party Secretary and Political Commissar of Da Loc Border Guard Station, said: The program "Helping children go to school - adopted children of the border guard station" has become a support for small dreams not to be left unfinished in the midst of difficulties. Typical examples include Nguyen Trung Kien, born in 2007, who overcame difficulties and was admitted to the Political Officer School; Nguyen Thi Thuy, born in 2005, a disabled girl who was once carried by her adoptive fathers to the exam site, now a student at Hanoi University; Nguyen Thi Huyen, born in 2002, who won first prize in Chemistry, was admitted directly to the Foreign Trade University and now has a stable job.
The journeys to school of children in difficult circumstances have affirmed the profound humanistic value of the programs and projects and demonstrated the dedication and responsibility of the soldiers in green uniforms towards the young generation at the border. Currently, Da Loc Border Guard Station is sponsoring 6 students, with a support level of 500,000 VND/month; accompanying 19 students under the project "Army officers and soldiers help children go to school", with a total budget of more than 140 million VND; maintaining support for 5 students in special circumstances and with disabilities.
Implementing the program "Helping children go to school - adopted children of border guards", Thanh Hoa Border Guard is regularly sponsoring 109 students. Of these, 11 are Lao students living in border villages, 12 are welcomed and raised at the stations. In parallel, the border stations are also supporting 219 students through the project "Army officers and soldiers help children go to school".
The programs to support children in border areas, when implemented with the dedication of soldiers in green uniforms, have proven to be effective. It is not only a social security activity, but also a sustainable strategy to contribute to improving the quality of education in border areas and building a strong border from a knowledge base.
