In the experiment, the authors scored each step of the exercise.
According to the Daily Mail, Dr. Natalie Azar of the School of Medicine at New York University Langone (USA) says that the higher a person's score – 8 points or higher – the more likely they are to live longer.
If you can stand up from a seated cross-legged position without assistance, you will receive a perfect score of 10.
Instructions and scoring
This exercise begins in a standing position, then sits down on the floor, and then stands up again without using your hands or knees for support.
The scoring method is as follows:
In cases where assistance is required to stand up by supporting oneself with hands, knees, forearms, or one leg, one point will be deducted for each instance of assistance.
If you can stand up from a seated cross-legged position without assistance, you will receive a perfect score of 10.
If a person is unable to stand up without assistance, they will receive a score of 0.
People who can easily perform the "stand-up-sit-down" exercise are more likely to live longer.
What score indicates good health?
A score of 8 or higher indicates you are perfectly healthy, without necessarily needing a perfect 10. Dr. Azar revealed that she herself only scored 9 despite working out daily, according to the Daily Mail.
However, Dr. Azar noted that for people with musculoskeletal conditions such as injuries and complications, the score may not accurately reflect their likelihood of living a long life.
Dr. Azar advises against panicking or worrying if you don't get a high score.
