According to reports, at this time, chili peppers in Dong Thap province are being purchased by traders at around 100,000 VND/kg. However, the supply of chili peppers is very limited.
The family of Ms. Duong Thi Kim Nga (Kinh Tren hamlet, Tan Dien commune, Dong Thap province) cultivates 2.2 acres of chili peppers. When we arrived, Ms. Nga and her workers were busily harvesting chili peppers to sell to traders. According to Ms. Nga, her family's chili pepper garden reached harvest time about half a month ago. To date, she has harvested 7 times, averaging once every 2 days.

Ms. Nga excitedly said: “This season, my family planted the Sen Hong chili variety. This variety produces beautiful fruit, has high yield, and is less susceptible to disease. The first harvests didn't yield much fruit, but in recent harvests, each time we sold it, we earned 10 million VND. I've already recovered my investment, and from now on, I'll be making a profit. In the first harvests, the chili was priced at 120,000 VND/kg, but now it's down to about 100,000 VND/kg. At this price, farmers are making a lot of profit.”
The family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh (Go Tao hamlet, Tan Dong commune, Dong Thap province) has planted more than 1 hectare of bird's eye chili peppers. The chili garden has been yielding a harvest for 10 days now.
Ms. Hanh shared: “A few days ago, chili peppers sold for 110,000 VND/kg, but now they are around 100,000 VND/kg. I've never sold chili peppers at this price before. At this price, my family is making a lot of profit this year. The chili garden will continue to yield until after Tet (Lunar New Year), so I hope the price will remain high.”

With chili prices at the farm gate so high, the selling price of this commodity at markets has also "reached its peak." Ms. Tran My Duyen (a vegetable trader in My Phong ward, Dong Thap province) said that she currently imports chili peppers to sell at 180,000 VND/kg. Due to the high price, it is very difficult to sell.
Mr. Cao Dinh Tuan, Director of Sen Hong Seed Company Limited (Dao Thanh Ward, Dong Thap Province), said that the record increase in chili prices is due to a scarcity of supply. Storms and heavy rains in the central and northern provinces caused significant damage to agricultural production, affecting the supply of vegetables, including chili peppers. Furthermore, the chili pepper harvest in the southern provinces is almost over.
Currently, chili prices in the central and northern provinces and cities range from 90,000 to 100,000 VND/kg, while in the Mekong Delta it is around 90,000 VND/kg. The supply of chili in Dong Thap province is also limited at present.
