On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), journalist Dilbert Reyes Rodríguez, acting editor-in-chief of Granma newspaper - the mouthpiece of the Communist Party of Cuba, made profound assessments of the role of VNA in the Vietnamese revolutionary press system.

In an interview with a VNA reporter in Havana, journalist Dilbert Reyes Rodríguez said that the birth of VNA as the first national news agency just two weeks after President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence had important historical significance for Vietnam's revolutionary journalism.

He said VNA has continuously diversified its media channels to fulfill its mission of bringing official Vietnamese information abroad, with publications such as Vietnam Pictorial, Vietnam News, Le Courrier du Vietnam, VietnamPlus, an online portal providing news in six languages, and the News TV channel (2010-2024).

According to journalist Rodríguez, this is one of the strengths that affirms the importance and increasing reach of VNA. By disseminating Vietnamese news internationally, VNA platforms have contributed to raising awareness of the Party and State's policies and guidelines, as well as providing information to foreign media and meeting the information needs of overseas Vietnamese.

Mr. Rodríguez said that to better fulfill its social mission, VNA is known in the regional and international media ecosystem through deploying a wide network of reporters in all provinces and cities in the country and present in dozens of countries.

According to him, this deployment, together with the quality of journalists and modern technological infrastructure, has allowed VNA to successfully perform its counter-hegemonic role in protecting the truth, when the international news dissemination ecosystem is heavily dominated by information monopolies.

In the Latin American region, VNA's media products, including those that take full advantage of artificial intelligence (AI) and those deployed on various media platforms - from print, online, mobile and social media - have contributed to the fight against fake news and biased comments that are spreading, especially aimed at damaging public perception in Latin America about Vietnam and other countries in the region.

From the perspective of bilateral cooperation, Acting Editor-in-Chief Dilbert Reyes Rodríguez said that VNA and Granma newspaper have a "fertile foundation" for cooperation and exchange in press production.

According to him, the two media agencies have great potential for cooperation in continuously exchanging content, so that VNA's press products are reflected on Granma's platforms, and vice versa, so that Cuban and Vietnamese people are the first to have in-depth knowledge of the realities of both countries.

Furthermore, according to journalist Dilbert Reyes Rodríguez, the international reach of each media outlet will be leveraged and each side's audience will be replicated.

Likewise, with the technological developments achieved by VNA, Granma will be able to access resources and tools that Cuban press agencies are limited by the economic embargo and the multifaceted, hostile policies of the United States.

Moreover, according to him, this will be a very important contribution for Granma in its goal of modernizing its content production stream, creating better conditions for expanding its readership reach and making a leap in quality, based on VNA's successful experience as a leading media agency for a socialist and sovereign society./.
