A research team at the Center for Entomology of Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok (Thailand) shared that they have discovered a previously unknown spider species, hiding in the forests in the western part of the country.

An extremely rare hermaphrodite spider with one side male and one side female has received a lot of attention, according to experts.

The team named the newly discovered spider species in Thailand Damarchus inazuma, after the character Inuzama - who possesses the ability to transform between female and male forms in the famous Japanese comic series One Piece.

According to the research team, Damarchus inazuma has striking morphological differences between the two sexes. While females are larger, about 2.5 cm long, with a distinctive orange color, males are smaller, about half the size of females, and have a gray-white color.

Among the orange and gray-white Damarchus inazuma spiders found by experts was a "special" individual with a body that was half orange and half gray-white. They examined the spider and found that it had a rare form of gynandromorph (an error in the early division of sex chromosomes).

Gynandromorphs differ from common hermaphrodites - being able to reproduce on their own or mate with both sexes is a normal biological trait of the species, not a defect.
