Many families canceled camping trips due to the heat.

The hot weather has caused some families to cancel their outdoor camping plans, and campsites around Hanoi are less crowded than usual.

During the five-day April 30th holiday, Quang Huy's family in Hanoi planned to spend two days in the city and two days camping in the suburbs. However, their camping plan was canceled on the very first day of the holiday because "it was too hot; going outside would be unscientific ," Huy said.

Because of the hot weather, and unsure whether to go camping in Hoa Binh as planned, Nguyen Hai took to social media to ask: "Is camping too hot? What's a suitable location?". Many people advised him to stay home and rest.

Hoang Huy, a seasoned camper, believes that with the current hot weather, it would be "unbearable" to sit inside a tent or under a tree during the day.

According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, on the first day of the holiday, temperatures in Ba Vi, a suburb of Hanoi, reached over 41 degrees Celsius, while stations in Son Tay, Hoai Duc, and Ha Dong all recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius. These are the temperatures inside weather shelters; actual outdoor temperatures will be 2-4 degrees Celsius higher depending on the terrain.

Northern provinces such as Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Son La, Hoa Binh, Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Hung Yen, Nam Dinh, and Ha Nam also experienced temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. Ha Nam was approximately 42 degrees, while Hoa Binh experienced widespread intense heat above 41 degrees Celsius. This heatwave is expected to last throughout the holiday period.

Staff at Trang Thieu, the most popular campsite on Ham Lon Mountain in Soc Son, said that a trail running race was held on the mountain on April 28th, so the number of campers was still quite high. However, according to observations by a VnExpress reporter, the number of campers in the pine forest area was not as high as on a normal weekend. Staff said they were still accepting reservations and food orders for April 29th and 30th.

Yen So Park (Hoang Mai district), a popular camping spot for Hanoians every weekend and during holidays, was also deserted on the morning of April 28th. "This morning, my family and I passed by Yen So Park and saw only a few people. Normally, when the weather is cool, it's already packed," said Minh, a resident of the Linh Dam urban area.

On the "Let's Go Camping" forum with nearly 200,000 members, many staff from campsites renting tents and providing camping services in the Hoa Binh and Soc Son areas (Hanoi) are recommending locations with many vacancies. They assure guests that fans and cold water are readily available. The campsites are located near rivers and streams, making them cool and comfortable.

The weather will remain hot for the next few days. If you're still planning a camping trip during this time, consider these options. According to some experienced campers, it's best to camp overnight, from 4 PM to 10 AM the next morning, choosing areas with plenty of trees and streams or lakes. Alternatively, you can rent spacious villa-style homestays with lots of greenery and a camping area in the garden. You can then go inside when the heat becomes unbearable.
