With only a few days left until the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Dragon, construction work on the North-South expressway section passing through Ha Tinh province is still progressing rapidly.

The Ham Nghi - Vung Ang expressway section passing through Cam Quan and Cam Hung communes remains bustling in the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year).

These days, taking advantage of the dry weather, at the construction site of the main section of the Ham Nghi - Vung Ang expressway passing through Cam Quan and Cam Hung communes (Cam Xuyen district), 10 road rollers, asphalt pavers, and many trucks belonging to Xuan Truong Construction Private Enterprise (Xuan Truong contractor) are still busily moving in and out of the construction site.

As the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Dragon approaches, while everyone is preparing and decorating their homes to welcome the new year, construction on the expressway project continues uninterrupted with "3 shifts, 4 teams".

"Seeing everyone packing up to go home for Tet (Lunar New Year), I also feel a sense of longing. Having worked far from home all year, I want to go home early to be with my family and loved ones on the last day of the year, but because of the progress of this key national project, my colleagues and I are encouraging each other to work a few more days," shared Nguyen Van Sinh (from Ninh Binh , a road roller driver).

Xuan Truong Construction Company is constructing the crushed stone base layer for the road foundation.

Along the 54.2 km length of the Ham Nghi – Vung Ang expressway, Xuan Truong Construction Company is responsible for constructing 43 km of the main route, along with numerous bridges, culverts, and pedestrian underpasses. Since the project's inception, with the maximum mobilization of manpower and machinery for construction, the contractor has completed 16% of the contract value for the two construction packages, meeting the schedule set by the investor.

According to the Ministry of Transport 's plan, the Ham Nghi – Vung Ang expressway section will be completed and put into operation from June 2025, but the contractor, Xuan Truong, wants to shorten the completion time by two months. The contractor plans to have workers finish work on February 7th (the 28th day of the 12th lunar month), then clean up the construction site for Tet holiday, and resume work on February 13th (the 4th day of Tet).

Mr. Nguyen Khac Trung, the project director of the Ham Nghi - Vung Ang expressway section, said: "Over the past period, with the efforts of the contractors and the maximum support from the departments and localities of Ha Tinh province in land clearance and ensuring the supply of construction materials, the project's progress has always been ensured. To date, the overall project progress has reached nearly 19%, basically meeting the plan set by the Ministry of Transport."

Due to the relatively low project deadline, contractors have not planned to work throughout the Lunar New Year holiday. However, aiming for early project completion, they have shortened their holiday break to 5-7 days and will then return to the construction site.

Workers and machinery from the contractor Vinaconex are busily working on the interchange between the expressway and National Highway 8 in Thanh Binh Thinh commune, Duc Tho district.

The bustling work atmosphere leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year) is also evident at the interchange with National Highway 8 of the Bai Vot – Ham Nghi expressway section in Thanh Binh Thinh commune (Duc Tho district), being constructed by Vinaconex.

The interchange project was initially scheduled for completion in June 2025, but because it serves as a connecting point between the Dien Chau - Bai Vot section of the North-South Expressway project (2017-2020 phase) and three expressway sections (2021-2025 phase) passing through Ha Tinh province, the contractor was requested to shorten the construction time and complete it by May 2024.

To ensure the progress of the interchange project, Vinaconex is trying to mobilize manpower and machinery to work in "3 shifts, 4 teams". The construction pace is being maintained until the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year).

Despite the approaching Lunar New Year, the atmosphere at the North-South expressway construction site remains very busy.

At this time, the Dien Chau – Bai Vot expressway construction site is also bustling with workers and machinery working diligently.

Trucks carrying soil and crushed stone, road rollers, and numerous groups of workers are racing against time to complete the earthworks, road foundation construction, and the access road to Hung Duc Bridge connecting Hung Nguyen District (Nghe An) with Duc Tho District (Ha Tinh).

Construction on the Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway section is planned to continue throughout the Tet holiday.

With only about 3 months left to complete the Dien Chau – Bai Vot expressway section – the planned completion date being May 2024 – and a large volume of work still remaining, Phuc Thanh Hung Investment Joint Stock Company (the project enterprise) has requested contractors to allocate manpower and machinery to work "throughout the Tet holiday".

"For items that are critical to the schedule, contractors have planned to allocate sufficient manpower and equipment so that all construction sites can operate throughout the Tet holiday," said Mr. Nguyen Quoc Viet, General Director of Phuc Thanh Hung Investment Joint Stock Company.

To boost the morale of workers who worked throughout the Tet holiday, contractors offered well-deserved benefits. During the Tet holiday, workers were paid 3-4 times their normal daily wage. After Tet, contractors would compile the total workload during the holiday period for each project and each item to determine appropriate bonuses for their staff and workers.
