Workers 'immerse themselves' in the metro construction site on the night before Tet (Lunar New Year).

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Under the cold 13°C rain on the night of the 28th of Tet, workers hurriedly lowered and installed the final steel frame of the retaining wall for the S12 underground station of the Nhon - Hanoi Station metro line.
On the night of February 7th (the 28th day of the Lunar New Year), the S12 underground station construction site (Tran Hung Dao Street) of the Nhon - Hanoi Station metro line was still brightly lit, filled with the rumble of machinery, and about 40 workers were busily working. They consist of 14 engineers, 6 machine operators, 10 workers, and 7 cleaning staff who remained at the construction site to ensure the project's progress. The temperature on Tran Hung Dao Street is currently 13 degrees Celsius. A northerly wind and drizzle throughout the night make working outdoors even more challenging. The workers' task on the night of the 28th of Tet (Lunar New Year's Eve) was to lower the final steel frame of the retaining wall structure for the S12 underground station. The 24-ton, 35-meter-long steel frame was lifted by two cranes and towed to the lowering position. Speaking to a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper , Mr. Tran Lam, Deputy Head of Project Management Department 1 (Hanoi Urban Railway Project Management Board), said that the S12 underground station is currently on the critical path of the project's progress. A section on the "critical path" means that a delay of even one day will cause the entire project to be delayed. Currently, two TBM tunnel boring machines are still at the S9 underground station (Kim Ma) and are waiting for stations S10, S11, and S12 to be completed. If station S12 is behind schedule, the TBM tunnel boring machine may have to stop and wait at station S11, causing the entire project to stall. Overtime work at station S12 has helped the contractor complete the installation of the final steel reinforcement frame for the diaphragm wall structure. After the Lunar New Year holiday, they will resume work from the 2nd day of the first lunar month to install the remaining fiberglass frame and complete the entire diaphragm wall. Previously, the contractor had planned to leave 4 or 5 steel frames uninstalled to continue after the holiday. According to the design, the S12 underground station will have 3 levels, with the platform level located 35m below street level. This is the deepest of the 4 underground stations on the metro line. The remaining underground stations only have 2 levels, at a depth of 29m.
Working next to a 35-meter-deep water pit, the workers have to wear life jackets. Having worked on numerous infrastructure projects, they acknowledge that the safety requirements at the Nhon - Hanoi Station metro line are particularly stringent, partly due to the demands of the foreign contractor. After the rebar has been installed, the workers will wait until after midnight, on the 29th day of the Lunar New Year, to receive the concrete mixer trucks to pour the concrete. Hoang Ngoc Tung, a steelworker, and about 10 fellow workers from Thai Binh province are waiting for their work at the construction site to finish so they can return home for Tet (Lunar New Year). They will head to the bus station on the 29th, bringing home the income they saved during their last month of work for the year. Despite the chilly 13°C weather on New Year's Eve, the workers maintained their bustling pace of construction. The mud and spring rain clinging to their bodies contrasted sharply with the image of the people in their fancy clothes flocking to Hanoi Railway Station to return home for Tet (Lunar New Year). The construction site security guard managed to get a branch of early-blooming peach blossoms from a discarded resident. He used a broken chair as a stool and a plastic vase as a decorative pot. The festive atmosphere of Tet (Vietnamese New Year) still lingered somewhat in this construction site, which was nothing but mud, dirt, and steel.
