Speaking at the meeting, the Speaker of the Bulgarian Parliament, Rossen Dimitrov Jeliazkov, expressed his pleasure at meeting Vietnamese friends who had studied and worked in Bulgaria. According to Mr. Rossen Dimitrov Jeliazkov, between the 1950s and 1980s, approximately 30,000 people studied and worked in Bulgaria, and currently, about 1,000 Vietnamese people are studying and living in the Land of Roses.
The Speaker of the Bulgarian Parliament stated that through meetings with Vietnamese leaders, as well as Vietnamese organizations and individuals, he felt the warmest sentiments that the State and people of Vietnam have for Bulgaria. He also emphasized that, despite the geographical distance between the two countries, they share common historical values and have supported each other in the struggles for national liberation, reunification, and national development. Currently, the friendship between the people of the two countries is maintained and continuously strengthened.
Stating that this official visit to Vietnam is a continuation of the very successful visit of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue to Bulgaria (September 2023), Bulgarian National Assembly Chairman Rossen Dimitrov Jeliazkov emphasized that Bulgaria, as a member of the European Union (EU), and Vietnam, an active member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), have great potential for cooperation in the fields of economics , culture, education, etc.; Bulgaria can be a gateway for Vietnam to penetrate the European market and conversely, Vietnam can be a bridge for Bulgaria to penetrate the ASEAN market.
In the process of promoting cooperation between the two countries, the Speaker of the Bulgarian Parliament, Rossen Dimitrov Jeliazkov, stated that Vietnamese friends who have studied and worked in Bulgaria are an important factor ensuring the success of cooperation between the two countries. He also expressed his hope that this community will bring their valuable assets – their feelings, knowledge, and experience gained from studying and working in Bulgaria – to further strengthen and consolidate the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Bulgaria.
Representing Vietnamese people who have studied and worked in Bulgaria, Mr. Nguyen Truong Son, Vice President of the Vietnam-Bulgaria Friendship Association, expressed his honor that the Speaker of the Bulgarian Parliament, Rossen Dimitrov Jeliazkov, took the time to meet him and personally present him with Certificates of Merit from the Bulgarian Parliament to several individuals who have achieved outstanding results in people-to-people diplomacy, making positive contributions to promoting the traditional friendship, solidarity, and multifaceted cooperation between the people of Vietnam and Bulgaria.

The Vice President of the Vietnam-Bulgaria Friendship Association shared that during their years of studying and working in Bulgaria, Vietnamese students and officials always received the care, assistance, and support of their teachers in particular and the Bulgarian people in general. Therefore, Vietnamese people who have studied and worked in Bulgaria always cherish the help of the Bulgarian government and people. Over the years, these Vietnamese have always kept the image of Bulgaria in their hearts, coming together in the Vietnam-Bulgaria Friendship Association to work towards strengthening and further developing the friendship between the people of the two countries, so that it may bear ever more fruit.
At the meeting, delegates from both countries witnessed the Speaker of the Bulgarian Parliament, Rossen Dimitrov Jeliazkov, presenting Certificates of Merit from the Bulgarian Parliament to six Vietnamese individuals for their outstanding achievements in people-to-people diplomacy, actively contributing to promoting friendly relations and solidarity between the people of Vietnam and Bulgaria; and enjoyed several Vietnamese and Bulgarian songs performed by former Vietnamese students.
Earlier, on January 6th, Speaker of the Bulgarian Parliament Rossen Dimitrov Jeliazkov visited Ninh Binh province to learn about Party building work and socio-economic development in 2023 and tasks for 2024. That afternoon, the high-level Bulgarian parliamentary delegation will visit the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, a World Cultural and Natural Heritage site.
