On October 8th, many American news outlets republished noteworthy information from the book "War" by Bob Woodward, an American journalist and editor of the Washington Post. Woodward is known for his role in exposing the Watergate scandal in the early 1970s. His new book is causing a stir as the 2024 US presidential election enters its final stages. Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, US President Joe Biden, US Vice President Kamala Harris, former US President Donald Trump, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are among those mentioned in the book. The book reveals that in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, then-US President Donald Trump sent Russian President Vladimir Putin several COVID-19 testing kits "for personal use" when such resources were scarce. After leaving office, Trump maintained contact with the Russian leader. An anonymous aide revealed to journalist Woodward that former President Trump had as many as seven private calls with Putin. However, neither Trump nor Putin have commented on this information. The book also reveals that just before the Russia-Ukraine conflict broke out in February 2022, US Vice President Kamala Harris urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to develop a contingency plan in case he was killed or captured.
According to information cited by the Ukrainian newspaper Ukrainska Pravda from the book, author Woodward states that at the Munich Security Conference, Kamala Harris allegedly encouraged Zelensky to take action to counter the threat from Russia. Harris suggested one of these actions was to choose a successor to ensure stability "if he is captured or killed." Woodward's book also recounts US President Joe Biden's disappointment with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to Woodward, as the war in the Gaza Strip escalated this year, President Biden used some harsh words to criticize Netanyahu, such as calling the Israeli leader a "bad guy." Woodward also states that President Biden's national security team at one point believed there was a 50% chance that Putin would use nuclear weapons in Ukraine. The book, titled "War," by investigative journalist Bob Woodward, is scheduled for release on October 15th. "Based on hundreds of hours of interviews with people directly involved, 'War' contains many new details about high-risk confrontations. The book explores the political and personal battles Biden fought during his presidency, including details about his decision to leave the 2024 campaign and conversations about his son Hunter Biden's legal troubles," CNN commented.
